I can’t tell you about 13R, but 13B is one of the most rewarding combat MOSs. Work hard and play hard. As an E4 you will have the responsibility of a lot of the heavy lifting. Be prepared for long days and short nights. When it comes time to live fire, all the training and time spent preparing is worth it. It’s literally a blast!

IF you have a chance to NOT go 13b do not do it. You will train and train and the chances of you deploying anywhere in the middle East is slim to none. I’ve been in artillery for four years and I am currently a gunner on the 777. My entire brigade deployed to Afghanistan in February of 2020. President Trump signed a piece treaty with the taliban and we were brought back in a month. This is a very specific story and you never know when or where we might see combat next as a hole army but from my experience it was not worth it. You will not gain any transferable skills to the civilian world and you will not get the same kind of pride or respect as other combat MOS’s if your stuck on the artillery world go 13f. If you have any other options choose something practical or go 15 series

If this was a decade ago he would be deployed for sure, but you're dead right about things now. In retrospect I'd have went 13F instead of 13B myself.

I'm a former 13B from 90-98. I can't even imagine what it's like to be a 13B now let alone a soldier. Back then we had a lot of downtime. Enough to get a lot of college classes in. I've been a software engineer for the past 20 years.
