MAJ Ken Landgren The first one to come to mind is: Direct every military operation toward a clearly defined, decisive and attainable objective. It's self explanatory

One example was despite the differences on strategy, the allied forces wanted to attack Germany.

Modern principles of War 2016.

1. Sequestration.
2. Lead from the rear.
3. Put off maintenance.
4. Lower morale by having COLA pegged to 1% less than CPI.
5. Have the ability for one humanitarian contingency operation.
6. Cut troops of RA to 420,000
7. Defer important decisions to next administration
8. Hollow Army 1970s or 1940 all over again

MAJ Ken Landgren - add to that...when Gen. Shinseki was fired after he asked Rumsfeld what about the After in Iraq 2003? Shinseki wanted 3 times the forces and if you see How We lost Iraq on PBS' Frontline show...within 48 hours of firing of the Iraqi army, the IEDs and the insurgency began.

Take an insurgency elective if you can. Its fun, easy, and eye opening. You live in Seattle?

I think the last Principle is Unity of Command. There is a singular chain of command. The union army had a difficult time because generals would not agree when they started their campaigns.

Very good point. The Union Army didn't start winning the war until Grant took charge and the other armies started their campaigns in concert with the overall attrition strategy. Sherman's march through Georgia and Sheridan's Valley campaign through the Shenandoah coupled with the Navy's blockade and Farragut's victory and capture of Mobile Alabama.
