Each test takes about 2 hours. They are FREE to Active Duty. CLEP/DSST are $100~ for Veterans. Most colleges will take up to 30 (1 years worth), however some will take A LOT more (I had 3 class room credits for my BS total).

SSG Eddye Royal - Generally they have to be done in person. "Many" Colleges offer to proctor the exams, and "usually" Base Education will be set up to do it on specific days.
As an example, MCB Quantico (Base Education through Northern VA Community College) does them on Tues & Thursdays Mornings. However I can also go to Strayer and do them there. The fee for vets is $75/80 + $20 (to the school). I'd call the local Base Ed and see if Retirees get them free or not though. I just don't know on that.

Online Courses at AMU are a possibility. There are class start dates at the beginning of every month and most courses are 8 weeks long. You might also see if some online Army classes translate to college credit.

I hope they understand that with most things in life, the easy way is not always the best way. It normally cost you more in the long run either in time, money or both & it pays to do it right the first time so its done and you can hold your head high and move on !to bigger and better things such as yourself CSM W Bennett.

Submit your JST to a school, similar to what MAJ (Join to see) said. Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS gives great advice also for other ways to gain credit. In general, do college - at least a class at a time, if possible.

Do you want them fast or do you actually want to learn something?. It almost sounds like you are just trying to stack up credits with no real educational goal or direction.

All due respect specialist...i don't mean to be a $#)$# but you're pursuing college for the wrong reasons and by using it for a quick promotion you're cheapening the experience and not gaining anything out of it. By saying you want quick credits you're saying you want to rush through it and just check that box. What would be your reaction to someone saying how can I get through basic training over with as soon as possible. Again I don't mean to get on your case... Just advising you try to get as much out of it as you can

Sgt Gus Laskaris - you don't understand how being taught to THINK rather than being told WHAT to think would improve the quality of the soldier or marine?
War making is NOT just aiming a rifle and shooting the "bad guy"- it becomes more and more of a cranial exercise every year. Having soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines that can think logically, clearly, and creatively is the key to out maneuvering and out thinking the enemy.
I know it is rather popular to think of education as an unnecessary thing that allows people to "put on airs", and ignorance is somehow something that makes a man noble. That is a myth that is perpetuated by those who would manipulate and use them to their own ends. Education taken seriously with an inquiring spirit and a critical mind- rpthere is how to achieve nobility.
There is no solace in ignorance.

Sgt Gus Laskaris - OK. I see it differently. The "bureaucrats" that have been in charge of military forces since the dawn of time were successful IF they were smart, innovative, creative, and not afraid to try new things. I believe that a university education is a perfect foundation to spark those abilities.

Sgt Gus Laskaris - OK. I have two degrees, and both of them have benefitted my life in gigantic ways. The university is NOT just a giant "vo-tech" there is more to it. The system of the liberal arts being the foundation for the ability to think and reason is ancient. I refer you to the Greek philosophers. It has worked for a very long time.

Sgt Gus Laskaris - I never said it is a REQUIREMENT that a person have higher education to be intelligent. In fact, education does not bestow intelligence. It bestows information to quell ignorance.

When I worked with disabled veterans helping them put their lives back together I had MANY that absolutely insisted that we send them to one of these fly-by-night "online colleges". I absolutely refused to support such online learning unless it was attached to an accredited university. I explained that those "get your degree in 30 days" programs are designed to take the money and run. Employers are not interested in such degrees, the credits are not transferable, and it will not benefit them.
Well- programs such as these have been investigated and the VA no longer allows veteran benefits to be given to these schools.
I tell you what- my stomach turns when I see the ITT tech or the University of Phoenix on tv. They are SCREWING people over.
