What are you prepared to do in the event of a mass shooting?

As shooting incidents seem to become more frequent what have you prepared yourself and your family to do should you ever be involved with an 'active shooter' in a public place? I have a friend (single mom veteran) who will be transferring to an online college program rather than risk dealing with a loner-loser who might 'go off' in a classroom? Suggestions on how best to prepare? Google 'bulletproof blankets' which are available for students.

And, I echo language on the poster/meme of my favorite General, James Mattis, when he said "Be polite, be professional, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet".
Never go anywhere that you don't have a plan to get out of. Gone are the days when you can just walk around blindly.

I carry 24/7, no matter where I am or what some dumbass sign says. I had a number of gun-drawing episodes during my police career. None since retirement in 2002. But I will not be caught unarmed and unprepared.

CPO Andy Carrillo, MS It's unfortunate that today we and our children must think about how we would react in this type of situation.

Yes, it is a different time for us all. Police spouses are now not the only ones worrying if their loved ones will return home safely from their days activities.

The situation will always dictate. There is way to predict where you will be once the shooting starts as far as position, available weapons, cell phone reception ect...

The Newhall Incident showed LE that to be true. No two traffic stops are ever alike, but having a well thought out and practiced plan minimized the built-in disadvantage of having to react to another's action. Surprises were manageable, not overwhelming.

I've been tasked as an Active Shooter Warden on the floor of the building I work in. Hopefully, I never have to witness an active shooter event.

I would take any and all necessary action to protect myself and others. I am basically armed or have one near me 24/7. I am trained and willing to use my training.

I saw someone set up a GoFundMe account today for him to help raise $10k for medical bills and things, in 12 hours they are already over $470,000 raised.

Yesterday my cousin Chris Mintz was shot 7 times while trying to protect others from the gunman at Umpqua Community College. He is a father, a veteran, a student, and now he's a hero. During the shooting both of his legs were broken and he is going to have to go through a ton of physical therapy....

Great news! He and his family will need every penny, given the long rehabilitation he will need. Thanks for sharing this information.

When I have to worry bout the "random" acts of violence that I may or may not encounter because of the uniform I put on everyday something Is dysfunctional.
That being said. Both at work and at home myself and HH6 are proficient in defending ourselves. At work myself and my co workers have a Active Shooter plan in place. Best defense is a sound offense.

A plan is important if for no other reason than it helps prevents one from 'freezing' in the face of a threat. Those who have no plan will be overwhelmed by the fear response and when you're experiencing tunnel vision and diminished hearing is not the time to create one.

Now we have Air Marshall on Planes Right? If an old very old lady was waving a fifty dollar bill and asked to where she could make some chance but this old lady was wearing a jump boot ,50 lb ruck and a 1911 at her hip. My bet is that shell get her change that she wants...... Just Saying, God Bless.
