The criminal element has always looked for an opportunity to "down a duck" as they call killing an officer. Most don't have the intestinal fortitude to get the job done and fewer yet the skill unless they ambush an officer but the political atmosphere in this country has emboldened a newer generation of "thug" mentality that look at killing an officer like some sort of right of passage while not even getting a "scolding" from the past administration. The government mouth pieces and race baiters have made it seem that all police officers are out to kill people of color when the truth is white males are killed by police at twice the rate of young black men. All killing is tragic and is the last thing an officer things about as they go about their day but a line of duty death occurs in less than one tenth of one percent of all use of force incidents. That includes both legitimate and excessive force situations. We in law enforcement have been in the community policing mode since the mid 1980s and the number of complaints regarding the use of force have declined steadily over the last two decades. These facts are rarely related because they don't fit the agenda of sensationalist journalism.

It depends on what you mean. Unprovoked killings of disengaged officers? Or "attacking" BAD officers and the blue wall.
