What can be used on your Retirement award if you have already recieved awards throughout your career for major accomplishments?

I will be medically retiring after 8yrs of Service and would like to know what can be used as bullets if my major accomplishments where rewarded? I know that you cannot get awards for things on previous awards but how do u cover 8yrs of service if you cant include those?

E-4 to fiveish with 8 years; hmmm. Your case is outside the typical range for which retirement awards are done but if honestly evaluated might be a gold star in lieu of subsequent award (I guess oak leaf in your case) for something you already might have like an achievement or commendation. Since local commander can do achievements, maybe commendations, and higher up's can sign higher awards, it's a matter of what the Flag would bite on vs. pushing back on your Skipper aka Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is this? Regardless, this can get real political real quick so be careful.

I would have your NCO Support Channels and Chain of Command do their job and have them evaluate your 8 years of service and submit the award. Nothing I would lose sleep over personally.

LtCol Matthew Sutton - Sir with all do respect if I don't take care of myself in this instance it will not get done and if your not going to give insight on the question then you can keep your smart remarks to yourself with personal opinions because its leaders like yourself that looks down on the people that made you LTC because you sure didn't on your own LTC Self-Promoted and your the reason so many great soldiers go underappreciated while you reap the benefits of our work

Colonel Sutton, I see you are encountering an Army culture issue that you don't see in the Corps. As an institution, the Army does not do awards well or on a timely basis. Sergeant Parker should not bear the burden of a flawed system and I encourage him to share some accomplishments in writing with his supervisor. His service is ending and an award would help close the book on this career so he can move on to his next success.
In over 30 years of enlisted and commissioned service, I rarely saw awards programs that had awards presented equitably and on time. In taking care of the troops, I wrote hundreds awards, many for Soldiers I had never met. The administrative burden of the awards system and supervisors who shy away from writing for whatever reasons can keep Soldiers from being properly recognized.
I didn't see Sergeant Parker's posting as self serving or self promoting. True leaders take care of the troops. We need to remember, as leaders, we are troops too and efforts to ensure the right thing is done applies to our own service.
I could go on with lots of examples but an award for recognition of retirement is a positive action. A memory of being overlooked lasts a lifetime.
