You carried a rifle made of steel and wood in .30-06 caliber and could shoot a gnat off a flea's ass at 500 yards.

Being "old school" is age related. Do any of you remember putting belt hooks on your OD Ike Jacket to keep it from riding up? When brown shoes turned black do you rememebr the issue dye that was impossible to get off your hands. How about the issue shoe shine box that had to be displayed with your last 4 inside. Ahh then there were the monthly pay lines when we all saluted the paymaster, collected our pay in cash. Waiting at the end of the line was the 1stSgt, Red Cross and always the savings bond where they wanted $18.75 for a $25 bond and the pay for an E4 over 4 was $137.59 plus oversea pay at $13.00 a month. As an E4 over 4, I could own a car and my payments were $23.55 a month. Those were some of my best military memories were friends were comrades in arms. By the time I made 1stSgt, the military had changed so much that I hardly recognize the old days as my uniform was different and my shoes black but duty, honor and country is always first.

Green fatigues. I had those long before the first BDU's were even available.
Also, the vehicles, like jeeps and gamma goats!

If you loaded your rifle from the muzzle.
If you hung out with the crew of rebels at Valley Forge.
If you recall having to read the Articles of War'
Your warship had to tack into the wind
You rode with Paul Revere
You can recall when it was legal to shave in the morning with a straight razor.
You knew all the bugle melody's and the bugler wasn't on a boom box
I could go on, but those were some of the ones I heard over the years.

used a P38 to open your meal and we're so tired and so hungry you ate it right out of the can and it actually tasted good

ate C-rats
worked and rode in M715, M37, M54.
wore and starched the 8 point utilities hat
starched the utility green uniform for Friday mornings inspections
being mistaken for a Marine until they saw the Seabee on your uniform pocket.
