I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

Old school:
People being barred from enlistment b/c they don't meet the requirements and few whined like babies about.
No transgenders.
No LGB+
No lowering the physical requirements to get in or changing the PT requirements. A soldier who failed had to work to meet the standards.
No identity politics.
No Burn Loot Murder.
No complaining to the 1SG b/c they were "offended" or their "fee fees" were hurt b/c they were "passed" through BCT or AIT b/c "numbers" mean more than quality soldiers.
Most of all far better leadership than 99% of our government on all levels.
Everyone kept infantry standards so you ran until you puked, got your 2nd wind and kept going. Another soldier would stay with that person b/c you never know.
You got smoked by yourself or a group and it was a fun time b/c you were in such good shape it was just another workout.
Medic Platoon PT!
Doing the same obstacle course as the Infantry for the EIB for fun and providing medical coverage. Basically, an all day playground for adults buy way cooler than anyone else had access to.

WELL, Now a days to me being old school is not the amount of hash marks on your sleeve, but the number of hash marks you have when the Nurses Aid helps you change our undies.

Anything prior to this administration. The military under the leadership or lack there of is embarrassing and shows weakness in- the face of continued and growing threats around the world. The Afghan withdrawal was just a precursor of what's to come. Just glad I'm out and retired but feel for the service members who are serving under this administration.

PT uniform was boots, and olive green uniform trousers, Basically you just took your blouse off.
PT test was five parts. Low crawl, 1 mile run, monkey bars, 100 yard man carry and push-ups.
Ate C rats which came with a 5 cigarette pack of smokes
Heated your c rat over small piece of c4
Pay was in sequentially number 20s some times connected like post-it

If you knew what it was like before the internet, that makes you O-L-D school and it makes you older than the internet.

Does it count when you are invited to a Veterans Round Table with several Congressional leaders and you find out you are the oldest one at the table? Who'd of thought that would ever happen?

Humping a 90mm recoilless rifle and carrying an M16A1 and opening C rations the still had cigarettes pact in them. PT was in tee shirt, fatigue pants and boots. Knowing what each C Ration is and where it is packed in the case, when cases were always presented upside down, and a P38 on your dog tags.
Is that old school enough?

Enlisted in USAF in '71, and the term "old school" hadn't been coined. We did our PT in fatigues. C-Rats were the field meal du jour... and "old school" to us were the "brown shoe days".

I’m still on active duty, wore yellow nylon running shorts, shaved in a steel pot, drove my own jeep, was issued an olive drab field jacket, and wore 2 different green fatigues, at least 2 types of BDU’s, the digital shit, hospital whites, and I’ve seen an actual Sp6.
