Read this earlier tonight, wanted to know what people thought.
The Obama administration will propose sweeping gun regulations aimed at keeping fire arms from those convicted of domestic violence and the mentally ill.

Lautenburg Amendment already prohibits individuals convicted of domestic violence from owning firearms....

Which is a BS law. I only say this because a person can be convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence disorderly conduct. Basically an argument that results in spouses yelling at each other in there back yard is a domestic violence arrestablenoffense. Although via the Laughtenberg Amendment a person can lose their gun rights they can get them back. It's absurd that a person can lose their rights from an argument with a family member yet a person who goes out and gets convicted of a simple assault crime not involving family never loses this right. One commited a physically violent act and the other simply argued with a family member. Domestic violence is always between a man and a woman, nor is it always between a couple, it could be brother on brother. How many of us have gotten into a physical altercation with our brothers? Guess what, if someone calls the police and one brother gets convicted he just lost his fire arms rights. Preposterous!!

SGT Timothy Rocheleau, not arguing the fairness of merit of the law. Just pointing out that the POTUS is proposing "sweeping gun regulations" that already exist....

Without seeing what the proposed law actually says, can't make any judgments.
However... It has been my experience with Gun Law (as a former gun dealer), that most Gun Law is "Ill conceived" or "Ineffective" in its stated purpose.
It does far more harm to essential Liberty than it does at actually curbing ACTUAL problems.

LCpl Mark Lefler Sorry after the multiple ethical issues in this administration, I don't trust any action, even if it sounds reasonable.
The founders made it the 2nd Amendment to the constitution for a reason.
The words of a President should have ZERO impact on the Constitution.
If it is so important, he needs to lead the effort through legislation or push for an Amendment, these both require compromise, which means he won't do it.

@LCpl Mark Lefler You can say that but the FACTS are that Dems had complete control for the first two years, 2008-2010, then the Senate until last year (2010-2014) and now have GOP as the majority in both the House and the Senate.
If it is only NOW they want to take action then it is a failure to lead.
If someone fails to lead, it is difficult to argue the other side won't compromise.
