Exactly what has happened to this promise. The U.S. helps more country's than they help there own.

it is not wrong for America to help other nations, but what is wrong is that the politicians, every one of them, place the welfare of others before our own people.. As long as we can take care of our own, battle worn, injured and disabled veterans, and the rest of the nation, then go, be good neighbors and help the less fortunate countries..

Exactly. We give and give so much to other nations to influence this or that...but we fail our own so poorly.

It shouldn't come to having to make that decision. Both should be helped. One of our biggest issues as a society is making things counter each other when that's rarely the real choice to be made. This isn't an attack on you by the way, it's pretty normal thinking. I'm just saying we need to try to get out of that mindset and look at ways to solve problems instead of saying that if we do A, we can't do B, or that doing A is opposite of B. It's rarely that simple.

That's very true. We need to help where we can. I will agree there. But I believe we do need to take care of our vets first and foremost

We are the richest nation in the world, the notion that it's an either or situation is just ridiculous.

It's hard to justify "rich" while we have $19+ Trillion in public debt. And in 2013 when unfunded obligations through the infinite horizon was $23.1 TRILLION from SSA, alone...

Who are they borrowing that money from? Move along folks! We'll be dead and buried, let our future generations take care of it.

Cpl (Join to see) - That's only a little more than the wealth this country produces in a single year. If I earn 100K a year and owe 110K in debt... am I really broke? The annual deficit is around 460 Billion, which is still higher than it should be, however as long as it continues to shrink, I don't see a big problem. We could also dramatically increase federal revenue if we wanted:.

1. Limit the mortgage tax deduction to two homes and/or 500K worth of mortgage loans.
2. Set a minimum tax rate for all corporations of 10%.
3. Close loopholes which allow offshore tax havens.
4. Stop differentiating between capital gains and earned income for tax purposes.
5. Remove the cap on social security tax.

Billion/Trillion, just words. After the next election cycle when the D's are on the sidelines you'll be on here lambasting the R POTUS for deficit spending while putting the future generations in debt. Tell me I'm wrong and I'll be calling you a liar in 2 years.

Silly wabbit, homeless vets don't vote--no permanent address! Syrian rebels = importable refugees + entitlements = 3 votes/refugee! No brainer!

Well, I don't know about all you all, but this is how I spent my morning ..
This was the Prescott (Az) Homeless Veteran Stand-down.
Food, clothing, health care and even a hair-cut.
This involved the Northern Arizona VA, the Yavapai Apache Nation and about every other government and non-government organization that assists homeless vet.
Did I mention the free dental check?

Two different animals, one group are refugees and the other homeless for a wide variety of complex reasons. Most cities have shelters going empty because the Veterans have issues and do not want to live in these facilities. The rest are in the same boat as the average civilian out of work and can not find meaningful employment. You have to go for root cause in the Vet situation and the humanitarian vs danger involved with the other. Return fire anticipated.
