What is that one thing you take with you on each deployment?
I have a stuffed animal my son bought me on my first deployment. I take it every time I leave whether it is a deployment or TDY.

18 years since I last deployed I don't remember. I know I always had a Gideon's Bible provided by the MWR. I collected stuffed critters after I got out for a while but I think my Granddaughters have all my stuffed animals now.

My dad gave me a plastic turtle he had in his office, asked me to take it with me, so without fail it's in my bag on every flight. Along side that I carry several american flags on every sortie I fly downrange as a reminder of what I do.
I also carry prayers for every group we work with downrange, my job isn't nearly as dangerous as those who go outside the wire but we do help to try and get them back safely. So it's "stay safe and good luck" to those we work with. Little corny I know, but it's when the JTAC says "Always" that we know they'll be okay.

How has the turtle held up? Since it is plastic? I hear you on the American flags and the prayers. Last time I was deployed the Aircrew were taking those two items with them for each sortie that they had.

Plastic turtle is good, will be joining me on this next deployment. Sits in my flight bag and goes with on every sortie I'm on. It's pretty solid and so far so good.

I have a prayer bunny that my mother sent to me on my first deployment. I take her with me when I go on deployments or long TDYs.

She has been to Iraq, Afghanistan, and now she is in Indonesia with me :) Not as many deployents/TDYs as some people have but she and I are usually gone for a year. Hoping the next trip is Honduras.

The least amount of BS as possible, less to carry to deal with. All basic essentials that I will need and a Laptop. I know people that took practically their whole house with them. I remember while in Afghanistan in Herat, a Sgt 1st Class that arrived, she was a rather special individual...when she departed, she had a entire 463L Pallet of her own crap to take with her. I think she blew her entire earnings at the Bazaar every week.

When my husband deployed we sent him photos of all our pets and our daughter so that he could have them close to his heart and remember that we were all at home waiting for him.

If I were to admit and tell the truth, I'd be in violation of Gen Order 1. No one violates the Gen Orders ever being that we're all stellar professionals in our respected services, and fully support and reinforce the mission. And I cannot with a good conscience violate my FIF amendment right to non incrimination at this or any other time.
