LTC Bink Romanick, this must be GEN George Patton day, who said, "Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."

SPC John Canning, GEN George Patton had his own ideas regarding practice/tactics, and for the most part, he was quite successful. Some of his better known quotes are:
"Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity."
"Some goddamn fool once said that flanks have got to be secure. Since then sonofabitches all over the globe have been guarding their flanks. I don't agree with that. My flanks are something for the enemy to worry about, not me. Before he finds out where my flanks are, I'll be cutting the bastard's throat."

LTC Stephen C. I believe it was also Patton that said (and I paraphrase) "The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make that other son of a bitch die for his."

SGT Robert Deem, I was trying to stick to some of his "tactical" quotes, but you're right, his specific quote was “No dumb bastard ever won a war by going out and dying for his country. He won it by making some other dumb bastard die for his country.”

wrong wrong wrong.... :) It is decentralized military control that is confusing to them. They can't understand how can one achieve a military's goal without telling them how to achieve it. It may seem normal to us, for them is like, they are in chaos!!! There isn't any control at all!!!

That is the different then ... now? I don't know.

The Brits will attest to that certainly being their experience with revolutionary citizens defending themselves against 'da Crown'. Masters of discipline as they marched in their bright red coats into the 'kill zones' of American guerilla warfare.

I'm in no way suggesting a violation of our Oath, but lets be real if your commander is giving immoral or unlawful orders the UCMJ specifically protects your right to refuse to obey, example: Your being shot at, you pursue said person and they run into a home. You have to wait for an ANA soldier to arrive you cannot enter the home or engage? WTF this is war? Or how about the American Pilots flying ops over Syria? If there is any civilians in the drop zone they are denied munitions release and often return with weapons in the sling??? WTF? Their lives are on the line in a state of war. Do you get my drift? Your either in it to win or your not at war.

I get your frustration ROG wreaks havoc on our tactics and moral. I was appalled 80% of payloads return. Yeah sure we are taking the fight to them.

Except that, contrary to popular legend, guerilla warfare didn't win the Revolution. Becoming just as good as the Brits were at marching in tight formations into battle was what won the Revolution.

It's funny. Improvisation is important, but only masters of disciplined execution can improvise effectively time after time.
