Prior Air Force Master Sergeant (E-7) heading to Army BCT (Ft. Benning) as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) in 3 weeks. What does basic look like as an E-7?

Be glad you aren't going into to the Marine Corps. The highest rank you can leave Boot Camp with is Cpl E-4..

Yeah that wouldn't make much sense. They do have warrant officers, though.

In Army training schools trainees have no rank until given one, even prior service. That being said as long as you are respectful of the cadres job to train PVTs they will be respectful of your prior service rank. But don't expect to get out of PT or details just because you were a higher rank in a different branch of service. I did Army AIT at an Air Force base and the cadres favorite thing was to make us run PT through the Air Force barracks at 3:30 AM screaming "Who's Your Daddy" cadence while banging on the doors. There were also 2 prior service, one Army reclass and a prior marine, both NCOs. They were housed in separate barracks than lower rank but did PT and formations with everyone else.

Thanks for the response. Everybody wore rank from day one at Fort Benning. It was too easy.

I was at Airborne school in 2002 as an E4. Pretty standard issue. I was legal age, fresh from OSUT and got good and drunk. Long story short; I took a left out my door instead of a right. Right/first right was latrine. Left/first left was another 8 man bunk. I took a leak in a wall locker. I still agree it was a dumbass move. I went back to my bed because I was really drunk. Private who’s locker I pissed in was understandably pissed off. My buddy, an E2 I went through OSUT at FLW with was trying to work it out. I was just denying I did anything. Because, drunk. Anyway, here’s where I think this is relevant. A SFC in the class stepped into this and basically handed out the Benning Accords. I, as the senior ranking and most drunk individual, was sent to bed. My buddy, Benny, was tasked with cleaning up after me. He was ok with this, and while alcohol was never the cause again, he’s spent a better part of the past 18 years helping me clean up the messes I’ve made of myself. Aggrieved E2 was sent to bed and all were instructed it was settled. Over. No spillover. He was an E7, but this was some Tony Soprano stuff. He handled it without getting anyone jammed up, without anyone (including him) losing any sleep, and without the brand new cherry SPC losing tank before he made it to Bragg. That’s what rank can bring to a training school. But that’s a school that’s used to housing all ranks and services. Basic at Benning probably different.

My experience was 20+ years ago now but every prior service Joe who was going back through the Infantry School was treated differently. We were allowed a little bit more freedom but we also knew to play along with the game and keep our mouths shut. Expect some shit giving for being Air Force., part of the fun and games. Good luck! It's going to suck but you've been there before. Let us know how it goes!

It was a great experience. I carried myself as a humble SNCO and got treated like one.

Just REMEMBER you are a DAY ONE just like every one elce.
Do not expect to be treated better or differnt then any one.
Then be expceted to keep every one in your Plt in line.
The Prior Service part of you will be on the spot light.
Learn AR -670-1 as best you can, bring one if you can.
And Fm 22-5,or fm 3-21 not to sure these days.
I have been out for 9 yrs.

In my opinion warrant officer basic is a waste of resources. Not for the pilot program. Basic. Training on their specific MOS? The should already now the job. They did not have that system when I got appointed. My good friend cw5 Les Craig was my assignment officer. He called me one day from DA and offered me the job as the Senior TAC at Aberdeen. I said Les I am not a babysitter. I am fine right here in the Netherlands. He had been the PBO and I was the 920B. I went GS. Director of Logistics. 54th ASG. Schinnen the Netherlands

Plus he called me again. Craig I want you too be the comsec custodian in the Pentagon. I said Les take my name out of your file. Les' s wife was Dutch and died of breast cancer. His last assignment was DIA at Dulles airport. He lived in Fairfax. He finally retired from active duty
He was the property book officer at fort Devins.

Depending on the cadre they may or may not be harder on you. It'll definitely be awkward for the younger guys.
