What does Army Basic Training look like for a prior service E-7? What is the TRADOC 350-6 not telling me?

Prior Air Force Master Sergeant (E-7) heading to Army BCT (Ft. Benning) as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) in 3 weeks. What does basic look like as an E-7?

No break in service. Just inter-service transfers. Navy --> Air Force --> Army (Enlisted to Warrant)

Ok, let's understand this if you are in a training cycle no matter the rank you hold, you are subject to the course curriculum, if that means pulling guard duty then you pull guard duty, I remember when I went to get my airborne tab, we had a 1-star in the group, they didn't treat him any different or cut him any slack because he was a 1-Star and the same with ranger school you are not cut slack because of rank, if you choose to attend these schools then you had better expect to do everything that everyone else is doing or simply don't attend.

I mostly agree. The TRADOC 350-6 is very specific with regards to treatment of prior service soldiers while in IET (Initial Entry Training). Imagine a Drill Sergeant screaming at a Senior NCO like he was a day one PVT in front of 59 other 18 year-olds. It may distort their perception of respect for rank structure and they might think they can do the same. In my case, there was none of that. I put out every single day. I was respectful to the drills and a role model for the privates as well as a few NCOs that were in the same company. Don't confuse Airborne, Ranger, OCS, WOCS for BCT. Whether it's a 5, 10, 15 or in my case 20 year veteran, you need to use it as an opportunity to show the young bloods how it's done, not beat down the Senior NCO just to prove a point.

The only question I have is why would you change branches at your TIG and TIS? The Air Force has other options availible. I also see this is a year and a half old, how did it work out for you? Well I guess that's two questions...

Air force doesn't have warrant officers. I made it through WOCS last year and I'm a WO1. I have also helped 4 Air Force guys over, so it's really not that crazy.

SGT Ken Eidinger what a great question! I guess the big takeaway is that though you have earned respect in a general sense in the military, your "street cred" doesn't fully carry over. You do have an opportunity to earn it, but that takes time, blood, sweat and tears. My advice; make sure you know why and the rest will fall into place.

No matter how it my seem to you, just be a member and leave all the I am a SFC mindset at home. I am prior AF went to Army Basic in 2008. I was with all priors from all branches. We all learned from 1 another.

In a training environment everyone should be treated the sam for the most part.
Same branch to same branch, you should know the the basics of how that branch work's.
If you are changing branch from one to another Branch,The whole way of doing things change.
The best thing to do is just go in expecting to be treated like a day one.
Because in fact you are a day one in that field or branch.
Expect to have been more responsibility then everyone else.
Since you have some Military experience and training even though it may be in a different branch and or field.
Doing all that can to learn as a day one will, only make you a better leader, I bet that the other students will more respect than if you act like you are better than them.
Teach the new guys what you can, learn what you can as well.
The old dog can always learn some new tricks. good luck.

Good advice, but you shouldn't treat former combat veterans, senior NCOs and prior army with break in service like a day one soldier. They should get respect for having served and treated in accordance with their conduct from that point forward.

Most should be treated better, Like you said NCO's that are combat vet's.
When I went back in to become a Medic there was a guy that had gone to Panama and the Ranger unit he was in had a high casualty count.
So he told me that was why he wanted to become a medic.
Now this guy had his tab and Regiment combat patch.
Both of us came from the grunt side so we were treated like shit.
That is way I say do not expect anything. Except to be treated like a day one and have all the responsibilities.
I am glad you had it different, The Grunt side does not seem to be as peaty as some others are.

When I volunteered in 2005 to go back in the Army as a Retired Captain to help in OIF, I went through a "regreening" program with IRR members who were involuntarily activated. Right by my side was a Retired O-6, who also volunteered. We did everything the enlisted soldiers did during the 2 week training period. We didn't pull rank on anyone. Of course, the Drill Sergeants treated us with respect as they also did with the enlisted. There was a lot of esprit de corps within the entire group. If I had to go back through Basic Training, I would not have done it. I served for a full year in Honduras, and retired again at the age of 58 in 2006.

Unless your in pretty good shape or in perfect condition, I would pack plenty of icy hot ointment, Advil, maybe Alleve in case you need it, wish you the best, but I believe you'll have your work cut out for you
