What happens in between basic and AIT, given that I will have almost 2 months in between? Will I be a holdover at basic?

You’ll go to AIT and be a holdover there, that’s what usually happens anyway. It’s going to suck though so have fun!

SN Greg Wright
Tim Scheible - Excellent attitude. So I'll go a little more into depth. I don't know where you will end up physically, but a young PVT waiting for a school is going to find himself sweeping shit. Cleaning shit. Helping people PCS. Any number of things that are busy work. How do I know this? When I graduated boot, I went home on leave and got sick with Mono. Lost my school slot. Wound up waiting a month for another. During that time I was basically a glorified janitor. Nothing wrong with that - you still get paid, and owe Uncle Sam his due. So while I was being a little flippant, I was also serious. Young SM's waiting for transfers are generally put to work. Somehow. Now, that said, I'll repeat: good attitude. Thank you for choosing to serve. That puts you a step above your peers.

Never had to that experience and don't know anyone who did. No way would you be held over in basic. You would likely go to your new station and perform temporary services until AIT started.

SP5 Dennis Loberger
SP5 Peter Keane I was thinking the same thing. Can't imagine an E1 on CQ. It's a way different Army today.
