Join the Air Force. my sons in 8 years and he's testing for Master Sgt. Depending on the mos less deployments. Don't judge your career based on boot camp, that's only a few months out of your life.

That's a purely Subjective question.
The Marines and Army are two completely different experiences because they operate at two completely different scales and have two dissimilar missions.
The Army has quantitatively more occupational fields and specialties. There is just more that you can do because there is more that the Army does. There are more places to go. You will also likely get promoted faster. However, the level of responsibility with each rank is not the same.
The Marine Corps has fewer options, but in general we are about the "experience of being a Marine." Good or bad, you will never forget it. We are more like a cult than anything else.

SSgt (Join to see) - I'm a couple years out. And my goal is to be renowned enough to where the guy standing next to me says "Hey slug, that's DOCTOR Marine to you!"

I can tell you that promotions will be much easier and faster in the Army but the bureaucracy in the Army could make it a less than pleasant experience. If you have the drive and motivation I would say go with the Marines. If you want to make the best of your service experience I would suggest preparing for the tests (depending on your carrier path) and get your HS, college credits or degree in order. Plenty of great opportunities with any service but it can depend on service needs and/or priorities of filling open slots. The higher your scores the better the opportunities.. Best of luck!

Promotion in the Army depends on your MOS once you get beyond E4, which are all but automatic in the Army. Pick an MOS that isn't large and doesn't have many command slots, you can end up a E4 0r E5 for a long time.
The only side of the Marines I have been around are mostly Infantry units, which are mainly like Army Infantry units, just have shitty logistical support.

I was Army ROTC then went USAF OTS instead...I knew sevl USMC in the BOQ where I was, I also did USMC command and staff nonresident while I was in...I've often seen the same question posed, however, for !e, the question isn't one of better, the correct perspective is different, the cultural norms differ, the roles differ, the functions differ, I knew and had all svcs where I was assigned, so I don't tend to think of the matter from what that perspective, honest...as I'd said, I know the question is frequently posed, however, I can't devolve it down to that level of classification, I know a good deal of the history and society of both, as well as how each functions operationally, so I tend to categorize them on that basis...of course, obviously, that:s solely my perspective, certainly, though I realize why you ask the question, certainly....

Depends on what you want. Marines use Army schools because they don't have the Budget the Army Has. Marines take what the Navy gives them. The Marines mission is different than the armies. Marines can land on foreign soil to protect American Lives and property, without declaring war. Their are more opportunities in the Army because it is much bigger. their are more MOS,s to choose from. Their are about 180,000 personell in the Marine Compared to the Army which has over a million personell. Personally I chose the Marine Corp because I think they are the Best. Semper fi.

What are the Pros and cons of switching from the Marine Corps to the Army? | RallyPoint
I would like to advance my military career in special operations, but the gap is closing because of my TIS in the Marine Corps. I do love my Marine Corps, however, it might be time for me to take my desires and experience elsewhere. I'm using this time to finish my degree, and explore my options. I was hoping there was someone who could give me some insight.

I was half joking anyway. If you find the right job you'd be happy in either service. I'm army infantry and one of my best friends is marine infantry and there's very few differences. He's jealous that I don't have to get a haircut every week and I'm jealous he has brand new gear all the time. That's about it.

It all depends on what you want to do. Since I have been in both services I can give you the low down on both branches. But a lot of it has to do with what MOS you want because chances are if the Marine corps doesn't have the job you are looking for the Army does.
