One full mermite of gravy in three single pans means only 1/4 of a pan will be used. The salad is really lettuce with a hint of shredded carrots (if that). More spinach than Popeye could eat in one sitting. Short on utensils. Main course, someone swears, was yesterday's leftovers. One pan of mash potatoes with two empty pans in the same mermite. What have you always noticed?

The pulled Pork and chicken in the serving like was from a UGR-A. But I also doctored it up to make it taste better along side my Boston butts and the pig. Mac and Cheese was made from scratch as well as the baked beans. My Rangers forgot they were in the field hahaha. I live to show the line guys that their cooks can do more than chili Mac and fried chicken.

Lol Roger that CSM! People forget that being a cook can be quite grueling...until they come and pull KP duties. Much respect CSM. Thank you.

I love cooking. I befriended the NG soldiers who ran the “VIP Hotel”. The facility had a huge kitchen. Sometimes on Sundays I would cook food for them. I remember making gumbo for them. I don’t remember the other dishes I cooked.

We had a couple GS-9s come to help our budget shop on extended TDYs and arranged for them to stay at the hotel as a personal favor to them. However, they started to act like arrogant VIPs. I told the soldiers to kick them out which they did.

When I commanded a small finance/budget company I grilled or made food for the soldiers almost every Thursday. I remember making Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches, Gumbo, Steaks, and BBQ ribs. I am a pretty good cook when I want to be. I am glad we were well funded.

The closest I ever had to that in any unit I was in, was in Germany. The cooks got with a Germain hunting club and got ahold of a bunch of rabbits. We had some good meals for a week.

Is watery chili-mac still a field chow staple? Talk about tasteless!!! Red water with macaroni noodles is all it really amounted to!

All I can remember is that if you were on alert the last week of the FY you were likely to get chili-mac at least 3 of the7 days on alert.

LT John Chang That's the problem, master recipes are prepared for the general tastes of Americans. Unfortunately the majority of Americans like bland food. Thank God for those bottles of hot sauce!

I spent a lot of my military career in a field environment, the chow was like eating at a five-star restaurant, when it was available. Much better than eating C-rations or MREs'.
