Thinking about this, I know RP is billed as pro developement for service members and vets etc... but a lot of what we talk about has nothing to do with personal development, there are many things that are but also many things that are not. It kind of feels like FB for military people minus the "I had a grilled cheese for lunch.".

It is about expectation management - I expected I'd see/participate in a strictly military focused/themed series of discussions. It seemed really focused that was when I originally joined but seems as though it morphed into movie reviews/favorite meme/favorite cartoon when you were growing up/what ever happened to cinnamon mint dental floss....along with a copy and post of the latest news.
You have to come in with a little expectation management that there will be a mix of military conversations as well as a splattering of randomness.

Personally I only get involved in the discussions that I find interesting and avoid the others. Especially the real controversial discussions that get to heated. And the discussions that are just nonsense. But I still enjoy how RP is evolving into something for everyone.

GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad - I agree... CSM Michael J. Uhlig LTC Yinon Weiss ... I started here to have military discussions, and to learn, and give back. Not that I know everything, but I do have the benefit of time, experience, and dumb mistakes... I like humor as much as everyone, and I try to keep my comments light hearted and not condescending. But, I too get concerned with two things. Silly topics... (that I understand is all personal) and then folks publishing hundreds of posts a day... and tagging everyone, so they get more points. I personally think the points are the root of the problem. I am going to post far less, and drift away. I can look at Facebook, Instagram, etc for nonsense.

I haven't been on this site for that long, and I have come to realize that though their are a lot of....lets just say post that could go somewhere else, I like the conversations that really do have to do with current event, because one way or another it will land in the military's lap. We see this with the recent changes (past couple of years) in society ie. DADT, Draw Down, Regulatory changes, Corruption at some of the highest levels of the DOD, etc, etc. Hook or crook, alot of people look at how the military will react more than the civilian side. I mean look at the SCOTUS debocal with gay marriage, and Military PCS. This has become in some cases a nightmare to deal with. But personal feelings aside, I do my job, and who you do, don't do, I don't care. Just don't think I have to agree. Look...see ya'll got me on a tangent. I do enjoy the forum.

RallyPoint is what you make of it. It is your choice to scan threads and respond, learn and listen, connect and direct, answer and assist, or for that matter just lurk if that is your pension. RallyPoint has a mix of all kinds of interaction types. In a sense, it is your military pallet to create what you need to be immersed and stay connected with something you are, or once were a part of. It really isn't complicated, just tricky .....

RP is a military community - something that I had missed a great deal since getting out over four decades ago. I'm grateful that it is here.
