This article is about the belief system and practices. For the organization, see Church of Scientology. For other uses, see Scientology (disambiguation).
Not to be confused with Religious Science or Christian Science.
I was watching the morning news and Leah Remick was a guest. After becoming an adult, she bailed out of Scientology and said they were full of s- - t. She has been a member since age 9. Her parents were members and the kids had to be members also. I've wonderd about Scientology since Tom Cruse (sp.) was on the Today show. I read this article from Wikipedia and was surprised to learn it's a money making religion. You would have to be pretty well off to be a Scientologist. This is a short article with links to more information. This religion has nothing to do with God or Jesus, so let's don't turn this discussion into a religion debate. It's strictly for information.
Scientology is a body of beliefs and practices created by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard (1911 - 1986).
In 1950, Hubbard published Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, explaining the process of auditing, in which a counselor guides a subject to recall traumatic memories and resolve the associated negative emotions.[6][not in citation given][7] In 1953, having lost the rights to Dianetics, Hubbard created an expansion called Scientology which teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature.[8][9][10][11] Scientology claims that that psychiatry is destructive and abusive and must be abolished.[12][13] A typical Scientologist must spend several years and $100,000 before learning the story of Galactic Dictator Xenu.[14][15][16]

People keep bashing scientology for making money but conveniently ignore the Tammy Fae Bakers, Joel Osteens, Ray Comforts and Pat Robertsons (to name a few) of the Christian world.......

If everybody remembers Joel, His father was the pastor before he took over after the passing of his father and was voted in to continue his father ministry in the church.

I put no faith in their teaching either. It is sad that most people base their opinion of God on those guys.

Sgt Stephen Browning - Well, they are his ambassadors. Until a deity decides to come on down from Castle Grayskull in the sky and introduce himself, God is only what men tell each other he is...

The sad fact is that there are those who truly try to be the people that we should but you only ever hear about the ones who are abusing and using people. Oh and by the way I don't believe in that kind of God. I believe that he is what science refers to as electromotive force. The unseen force that holds all matter together. The name of him is Yahweh.

I also have issue with the church expelling members, banning parents from speaking to their own children (lets say the child leaves the church of their own choice, the church can order non ciommunication). Oh, and they tried to infiltrate the IRS and FBI to spy on them....

Hmmm. I wonder, since it is so much about wealth, if Trump could be a Scientologist? That's just about all we need for a POTUS, is someone even more greedy, than the ones already there.

Few people are so comfortable with their beliefs that they can practice or live by them without outside affirmation. This need for affirmation, an extension of the herding instinct, is what gives rise to organized religion. Surrounded by others who share your belief, you can rest comfortably in the knowledge that your beliefs are validated. Sadly, this process sometimes goes off the tracks as in the case of cults. Scientology is a cult. It is a relatively small group garnering its notoriety from the fame of its celebrity members. Its fortune arises from the same source. Its practices appear sinister because they are sinister. Most religions promote acceptance, forbearance, and forgiveness as well as peace and harmony. At the other extreme we find Islam. In all cases, they are bound to a divine revelation. Scientology fits none of these criteria. Its revelations spring from a man with no aspirations of divinity. All he really wanted was to sell his novels and make a good living doing it. Sadly, some took his imaginary verses seriously and Scientology was born. Sad.
