For civilians doing SANS Boot Camps, it's a 6 day course, followed by testing at anytime within the following 4 months, for each individual cert.
The 25D course teaches the following certs: SEC 401, 501, 503, 504, and 573. How does the schedule work? Is it a 2 week boot camp for one Cert, followed by the exam, or do all the exams come at the end of the course?
Also, what is recommended to study before attending the course? Any good advice or pro-tips?

Background on me: Worked in Army Aviation over a decade, recently re-upped and reclassed for 25D, AIT towards the end of 2018. Never worked anything with IT before, only know the bare essentials. Took SEC+ boot camp earlier this year, studied hard during the 2 week course, scored 757 (passing by one question). Zero Linux/Python Experience.

You will take 1-2 week bot amp followed by a week of labs then take the exam. Every class that has gone through the classes have changed. Only ones I know you will definitely take are 401 and 504. Consecutive is out for now but their bringing it back end of 2018 or in 2019. You’ll have a week of military tools training with Army test at end. Pay attention in this class. These are the tools you will be using on a daily basis. Not as sexy as SANS but you need to know them.
Pay attention in class and when you get out of class study till you go to bed. Don’t go out and party. Read the books cover to cover and make a good index. If you have family, leave them where their at or send them to your next duty station. You won’t have time and don’t need the distractions. Good luck.

I'll second what MSG (Join to see) stated. I have taken several SANS courses and have achieved the GSEC (401), GCIH (504), GCFA (508), and GPEN (560) certifications. Don't try to compile your index during class time, too much info, too little time. Spend a good solid 2 to 2.5 hours a night going over the materials and building an solid index. Only you will be able to tell what you need in your index.

I would further suggest you have a laptop available you can run virtual machines on. Going through the exercises in the courses will help. Know the tools and their outputs forwards and backwards. Good Luck!

The course has changed a little bit. The SANS courses are now 1 week (6 days) boot camp followed by 1-2 weeks of labs. At the end of the lab week(s) you will take the SANS Certification test. Currently only SANS 401, 501, and 504 certifications are required to pass. You might be given the opportunity to take one of the other two before you graduate. Definitely pay attention in class, study every night and make your indexes throughout the course as that will help you pass the exams. The SANS 573 Python course is designed for those who have very little to no experience with Python or any coding experience.
