The highest rank in the Army. Is General of the Armies. It is an honorary title that has been bestowed on only two men. George Washington and John Pershing. There is no approved rank insignia for it but if there was they would be a six star general. The next rank down is General of the Army. Only 8 men have held this rank. U.S Grant, William T. Sherman and Philip Sheridian as 4 star General in Chief of the Army and George Marshall, Douglass MacArthur, Dwight David Eisenhower, Hap Arnold, and Omar Bradley as 5 star Generals of the Army.

The highest Rank ever in the Army would be 6-star for Pres. Washington. The highest now is the Army Chief of Staff 4-star. Last year it was Joint Chief of Staff 4-star but that position is taken by a Marine now.

General of the Armies, the first soldier of which promoted to that rank was Gen. Pershing. And in 1976 Gen George Washington was posthumously and retroactively promoted to that rank so as that no soldier past or present shall out rank our first commander.

Command specialist of the United States Army. He/she holds this position for being the don of the e-4 mafia and has grandfathered in to retire at such a rank.
