I liked Loading, and I prided myself on being the fastest loader in the company 1.8 seconds from knee switch to door slam (took a hell of a lot of practice to get that good).
Driving was nice cuz you got to nap often.
Gunning was fun at the Range only.
And wasn’t in the Army long enough to get my own Tank. Lol

Depends on how active you want to be. Driver is lax. Loader is busy. Gunner is/ should be focused on his job and his driver and loader. Tc is responsible for all.

I was never a real Tanker (insert joke here), but was a "Baby Tanker" for a while, having done all three tasks for a Bradley crewmember; gunner, driver and Brad commander. By far, the most fun was as a driver!

BRANLEYS ARE IN NO FORM, ANY TYPE OF TANK!!!! Just had to put that out there. Love you infantry guys but being on a Bradley doesn't make you a tanker.

SGT Ashar Elliott - And I think we can agree we are both thankful for that. Ha ha ha!

Anyway...

When I was Active, the Charlie Co. in our combined arms battalion, were tankers, and they loved to bust on the "baby tankers"--their term meant as a friendly dig on Brad crews--as not being real tanks and Tankers. We didn't have a special MOS rivalry term for the Tankers.

Related Sidebar: One day the chain thought it a cool idea if there could be "cross training" between the A & B Co grunts with the C Co. tankers; and while we did get an intro to the Abrams and got to crawl around a couple like a bunch of little kids on playground equipment (just cuz we were grunts doesn't mean we don't want to play with all toys that go "BOOM!"...just sayin'), that was the beginning AND end of the "cross-training" idea. Got a feeling that idea was killed from on high. Too bad though. I'm surprised it was even a thought to begin with.

Hated the driver seat, that engine was hot. Loved gunning though!

SGT Ashar Elliott - We're pretty much tankers the same way scouts and MPs are pretty much infantry and finance clerks are pretty much investment bankers.

The Tank Commander in my opinion would be the most desirable position since he is in charge of the tank crew while being the gunner has it's perks and advantages of identifying and firing rounds at targets. The driver gets to enjoy maneuvering the tank on the battlefield and has the best position for sleeping in his reclined seat and one can't argue that. As for the loader, he at least gets to stand out of his hatch for a better view when not loading rounds in the breech block for the main gun. Once you are on the tank, you will have time and experience at all positions, some more than others.

SPC (Join to see) - I spent a good portion of my career on the M1A1 tank. Driving was fun however, being the gunner was even better.

I liked being the guy behind the triggers, I was good at it. Plus I liked the responsibilities it came with.
