So recently I've been flagged for multiple Failures To Report, as a result UCMJ is pending. I have accepted the consequences of my actions and am prepared to face them. I just wanted to know the extent of the article seeing as I'm still in AIT and haven't reported to my first unit yet. (No pun intended between the Failure to report and me not reporting to my unit. The FTR's are to formation) Help?

An Article 15 right out of the gate will hamstring your career progression and seriously set you back amongst your peers. Any downsizing will effect you almost instantly and new supervisors will get a nasty administrative taste in their mouth immediately because we are all human and we judge with what we know. In the Air Force an article 15 is almost certainly a death knell for your career. I am not certain on how it effects soldiers but one thing I am certain on...it isn't taken lightly in any branch. Non judicial punishments are a tool for commanders to use their discretion and spare military personnel who have had stellar careers and just made a mistake but need punishment or its a tool to weed out the dirtbags. The side of the fence you choose is up to you.

Keep your head up Cameron, I got NJP (we call it CO's Mast) when I first went into the Navy for underage drinking. Hello! it's the Navy that's what we do. After that I chilled on the drinking until we left for Guam, where it is 18. After that though I turned out all right. There is always a bump in the road, life is about how you deal with them.

Any Article 15 drops off your record upon PCS. So once you graduate and get to your unit, it'll be like it never happened. The important thing to do *now* is focus on remedying the behavior, as has already been said. Other than that, take your lumps like a man and keep it pushin'.

I've been hit with *literally* every Article 15 there is (a summarized, two companies and a FG) and now I'm an NCO in charge of my own section. Don't let it get you down, especially at this early stage in your career.

SGT Higginbotham, Im glad you straightened yourself out, but I feel like youre making this seem like PFC Hale can mess up all he wants and he will get a slap on the wrist. Thats the wrong way for him to be thinking this early on in his career. He needs to know that the way he is carrying on is not right and he needs to dig deep and figure out if this life is really for him or not. You got your act together and I commend you for that. Let's try to send him down the right path and hopefully this will be his last hiccup

I disagree. I understand where you may be coming from, he did say that he was FTR multiple times. I don't see how he can do that in AIT, but he is pending an Art 15. Many of us did some pretty dumb things when we were younger, learned from the consequences, and moved on. I hope that this is the case for this young soldier. He is just starting out and has a chance to turn things around. It's going to suck for a while for him, but he still has a chance to improve and be a good soldier. The choice is his.

It would depend on the level of the punishment and how they decide to administer it. If they charge him at Platoon or Company level, or at Field Grade level with a single Article 15 proceeding, it would not effect his ability to re-enlist assuming that he doesn't continue to screw up. That changes if it's drug or alcohol related, a single Article 15 finding of guilty would be a bar to re-enlist.

If you can’t manage to Report On Time, maybe Strict Military Disclipine is not for you. Your failure to report effects others. Maybe you should consider an Admin Discharge for the betterment of the military and you.

Well, you know what they say about free advice.... You get what you pay for.... I joined the Army fresh out of highschool. My recruiter sold me on a job I hated... anyway... Needless to say I was kicked out in less than 2 years. It was Clinton's Army, happened alot.. yada yada... It took 7 years, 2 fraudulent enlistments, the worst attack on US soil, some crazy middle eastern billionairs, a recruiter that never gave up and a president that wouldn't take shit from John Wayne for me to get my only 2nd chance at an honorable discharge. I was kicked out for mainly FTR's. Durring those 7 years, I spent nearly 6 homeless. Not for any other reason than I couldn't find anything but shit jobs that didn't pay shit. I lived with family and couch serfed whatever. You wont get a shot at 2nd honorable and that bad discharge will haunt you in ways you cant imagine. There is money for school you wont get. Kiss the GI bill good bye. Nope, you won't even get hired on at UPS. The only way out from under it, is to build your own business and do it without government money. Which I was able to do at one point... for about 6 months. Forget women, straight up, they want a dude that can take them to 6 flags, amd no matter how much she loves you, she wants to roller coasters more. There are 7 purple hearts on my family. My Uncle retired CSM of Ft. Bragg. How do you think it made my dad feel when he worked for the DAV and couldn't get me any benefits because I completed less than 90% of my contract. I was given very good advice and I didnt give 2 flips cuz I knew everything. I followed that advice with my second chance. It lead to a combat tour another purple heart on my families resume, and eventually that once coveted Honorable Discharge. I got out as soon as my time was up, so I could secure it. And when my wife was pregnant with our 2nd, I was free to join again and buy a brand new Jeep Commander. I was only in Iraq 4 months when I was doing a pmcs of all things and hagi delivered me a career ending injury in the form of a mortar. I was medivacted to Germany, Walter Reed and eventually home, with a full 20 year retirement and now Ill be burried at Arlington. Dude, you DON'T!!!! want a bad discharge. I'll give you the advice I was given by several of my family members. Including my dad and uncle. Ready??? I hope you take it to heart before its too late.... KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND DO WHAT YOUR TOLD.... You will be a SGT in no time. Please, do it for yourself

MULTIPLE failures to report? Are you facing a Field Grade or Company Grade Art 15? My standard SOP for any soldier facing charges was to order them to first see JAG - that's who is supposed to have the last word on the legal extent of any issue and that is who you need to talk to.

In Short learn to get out of your bunk. Set your clock up.

The long of it is except it and do better. You have a long career ahead of you if you want. If not then don't waste the time.
