As Congress comes back into session, what do you feel is most important for them to tackle? The below link focuses on defense, but obviously there are a plethora of possibilities.

Putting aside their petty political differences and doing what is right for the country.

LCDR Nicholas Mulcahey, Congress's most pressing need is to start working together for the need of the nation.

CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025 hear hear!

Toeing party lines and expletives aimed at the goals of the other "factions" doesn't do our nation any good. Ironically democrats and republicans actually agree on most things, but they focus on the differences instead of working together to try to fix the issues.

Our budget and the national debt, which is currently paving the way for a future economic disaster.

LTC Yinon Weiss I completely agree! Not passing a budget again has a very big lasting effect that people don't see. Continuing resolutions seem to keep the budget "in check" until it's realized how much more needs to be spent to fix the inaccuracies when a budget is finally passed. Paying "later" usually costs more. Cost deference isn't cost savings.

I'd be happy if they would just remember who voted for them in the first place and forget who the Democrats, Republicans, and Independents are, remembering that they're all Americans first and foremost.

Generally speaking, I would say anything specifically enumerated inside the Constitution.

The DoD "Budget" is enumerated under the Legislative Powers. Raising an Army (or drawing down) is enumerated. So in essence, anything directly related to Article 1, Section 8. Those are the most important issue(s).

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS too technical for me to understand so it must have been a good response. I upvoted you.

LCDR (Join to see) I know you're screwing with me, bu I laughed way too hard at that.

Basically I mean we need to stop looking at the BS, and get back to basics. There's like 10~ big ticket items that they "must" do. A lot of those are on "auto-pilot" like Coins & Currency, Piracy, etc. Once we get rid of all the fluff... it becomes "this is their job, why are they worried about X?"

SMSgt Tony Barnes unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your opinion) that isn't going to happen. Efforts to try to do it are only going to make us look foolish to our enemies and allies alike and mitigate any benefit that might still be made of the situation.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion, but with the votes the way they are, those opposing the deal cannot get a repeal through without a veto. Deadlocking our political system trying to do it at the expense of passing a budget seems like a bad idea to me.

I wish Congress would do something out of character: Do no harm. Maybe we should require members of Congress to take the Hippocratic Oath instead of the oath of office. Sadly, I fear that the only hope of preventing them from doing harm is for them to take longer vacations.

Many here seem to want them to start working together. Isn't that what they're already doing? Obviously, their universal intent is to remain in office. That explains why they serve special interests. Big money (unions, corporations, PACS, et al) supply the money needed to mount campaigns. If voters actually cared to elect proper representatives instead of voting for symbols (elephants and donkeys) or identities (race, gender, sexual orientation), all other problems would go away.

Yes, my response does seem jaded, doesn't it? However, I firmly believe that we have the government that we deserve. If we honestly were unhappy with it, we would vote it out, wouldn't we?

Serving the people who put them in their position rather than serving themselves would be a great start. Maybe giving two flying f##ks about our great nation would be another...

Ending the hyperpartisanship and actually starting to work together to solve our country's problems. Seems like today's politicians prefer to leave the problems unsolved because doing so makes it much easier to get re-elected.
