What is the down and dirty for getting a support person a combat patch from my unit. This soldier has been working with us for over a month in support of our operations and I feel like he should be commended for his efforts in keeping us mission ready.

It sounds like the more appropriate gesture would be to recommend this Soldier for an Impact AAM or ARCOM that he can actually wear and receive points toward promotion.

Has to be attached to a company or larger unit by Order while in a qualifying AO. Otherwise his unit SSI will be his patch if he meets the qualifications. FWTSSI are not meant to be awards for operations support, actual ribbons and medals are intended for that.

If he's a reservist, the reserve had a fascination with a commander signing a memo to award combat patches in these situations.

Sir, memos mean nothing anymore, policy/regulation is Smaller than a company and you are attached to a larger unit as per orders in hand you wear their SSI as the FWTS-SSI. This was to put a stop to patch hunters that floated around like leaves in the wind with a rolodex of patches to wear.

LTC (Join to see) - Sir, the only purpose they served was to send those who thought they had worth on their way :)
