Everybody has one or should have one: That thing you do, or that place you goto to just "get away from it all".

No, not drinking. (*Insert crazy port visit here with subtitles*). Anyway...

So what's the hobby? What do you do when you're done with your day? You never know, you might help someone out here on Rallypoint break some bad habits and start new ones...

Absolutely! I generally make a ruckus about it at first, so it seems like I'm gearing up to do something I don't like to do - then I head on out and have about 2 hours of peace and quiet. I mean, not exactly quiet, but there's something to be said for the ambient hum of a mowing deck.

I just do yard work to make mine look better. Keeps me away from everyone and I enjoy it to some degree. I don't compete with neighbors but it bothers me if my grass it too high or the shrubs grow outward too much. I'm always looking at new ideas to fix my landscaping too. Not much of a hobby but it works for me.

SFC William Laws military discount at both Home Depot and Lowes is great. We did save a few plants on the dying rack once and brought them back to full life. They didn't last too much longer but were worth couple of dollars each.

CPT Jacob Swartout while a VERY select few may view yard work as an outlet, most of us see it as something that keeps us on the edge.

I used to study Hapkido until my teacher got divorced and moved. I also joined the pistol team at work until they shut it down because it cost too much. Since it seem that most of the things I liked to do that involved other people don't seem to be working out.... now I build models. I seem to find that tanks are my favorite.

COOL! Wish you had gotten pics. I still have a BRAD here half assembled, been putting it off due to the time involved in painting it. I do most painting before assy. I have moved mine in boxes of real popcorn.

Our regimental commander's son in Germany made a number of the models that are (were?) on display in our post museum. The kid was amazing. One reason I never competed against him in the model contests that our moral support sponsored.. he built armor so I built aircraft.

SGT Dan Knispel I use to win regional modal car contests when I was 12-14. Kids have the dexterity for the fine detail. BTW you are just down the road from me. I race at PBIR.

Never raced there myself, my old Spitfire died long before I got the chance, but I have seen the place on the news. And you're right about the kids, dexterity and better eyesight. I have to use a set of wearable magnifying glasses for most of the detail work now.

I play video games, mostly Call of Duty types of games. Anything that helps me relieve the frustration of not being able to act on my thoughts throughout the day. Not recommended by my mental health team, but it does help.

My new definition of stress:

The confusion and frustration created when the mind over rides the bodies basic natural desire to choke the shit out of some civilian who desperately deserves it, but isn't there to get their just rewards.

Geocaching! I know there are some of you out there that are 'cachers' as well, but for those of you who haven't tried this yet, it's a great way to get outside, have fun and visit a lot of places you would never have visited otherwise. All you need is a sense of adventure (and humor helps) along with a hand held GPS (a cell phone will work, but accuracy will suffer.. )
If you're interested, here is the web site, browse away (it's free!) and join us in the adventure!

Perhaps as in my case, when one's posterior has met the wrong end of a knitting needle in the defense, we don't want to know what it can do in the offense.

When I was on active duty i used to find the local library - some on base, some off base. Just getting away from it all and letting my imagination wander in a good novel certainly made time fly. No "white noise" from a bar or beach...just close to total silence.

K.I.S.S. - a principle too often forgotten

It used to be hockey. Since moving out of hockey central I now do workouts or tv. Since MAJ Laurie H. got me on this site and CPT (Join to see) and MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca got me addicted to it I use Rally Point to calm down from a long day at work. To vent I call co-workers, mentors, family, or friends.
