What is your stance on abortion and the Hyde Amendment?

Le sigh... I'd love for people to quit regulating women. We are guaranteed privacy and bodily autonomy, even after death, but women aren't afforded the same courtesy. The Hyde Amendment isn't about money or principle, it is just a manifestation of a patriarchal society trying to deprive women of their right to reproductive autonomy. As a pragmatist, there are ways to decrease the need for abortion: education and birth control, neither of which are supported as a solution. Instead, Republican legislators don't care about a real solution, they would rather gamble with the lives of women than allocate the money to education and healthcare. Until we can trust women to make their own decisions by even allowing them to make them, we can't have any conversation about abortion. Give women the legislative power and see how it would change.

In general, when someone sums up their political opponents position, it does not in fact sum up their position.
I have never heard an opponent of abortion, Republican, third party, independent, or Democrat (yes, there are Democrats who oppose abortion) say any of the following in public or private:
_Abortion is about maintaining a patriarchal society.
_I want to gamble with the lives of women.

Maj John Bell Of course not, but that's the effect it has. Unintended consequences are still consequences, and they should be factors in making determinations for half of the population.

SSG Jessica Bautista - Even if you disagree with opponents of abortion, would you acknowledge that some are very sincere in their wish to protect what they consider an unborn child; and their position is not about "keeping women in their place."

Maj John Bell Oh, absolutely. I'm sure they have moral objection to abortion. However, decreasing access and banning it outright will have the opposite effect. Knowing this, employing those tactics seem to only have the purpose of "keeping women in their place".

If you don't trust a doctor's Hippocratic oath? Don't use doctors. And last I checked there is a fourth amendment and I read the constitution and don't remember the word abortion appearing anywhere in there so unless someone invited me into their doctors office with them until I actually have evidence of any actual illegal activity I think I should mind my own fucking business. I personally wouldn't kill babies.
