I listen to everything - K-pop, J-Pop, Chinese traditional, Jazz, Dubstep, Classical...

What stories do you have about introducing someone to a different style of music? What do you like about that genre? What does it help or motivate you to accomplish?

Finnish Folk Metal.

Behold Korpiklaani's Wooden Pints. It features a creepy General Zod looking lead fiddle player, a crab-walking rhythm guitarist and a gripping turkey-leg eating sequence.

That's a great song, CPT! Kind of reminds me of Flogging Molly or Deadeye Dick

Pretty much anything and everything, I love the fact that my kids are into all the same music my wife and I are which ranges anywhere from Rush to Billy Joel to Kiss to Andrew Lloyd Webber to classical piano to AC/DC. Talk about extremes.

SFC Laws, my wife has seen it 8 times, twice with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, 4 times with me, and my children love the music. To say she loves ALW is and especially Phantom is an understatement. My children have seen the movie version but we're hoping to take them to NYC to see it this year. Nothing like live theater!

There is so much, "stuff" they call music today. I try to have an open mind and respect other's choices, but IMHO, its all about the sensationalism and less about the music. all the competition shows, all these "multi-talented", (and I use the term loosely) self centered "artists" just doesn't cut it with me. And as you point our SrA Miller, there is NOTHING like the classics - music as it was meant to be.

Like you SGT Spartley, I love every genre and type of music there is. I have moods where I will listen to a certain group or genre. Introducing my daughter to traditional Chinese was interesting. I must say she surprised me, usually she goes to her bedroom and shuts the door, but she liked several of the selections I introduced her to. Although she isn't ready to run out and purchase any, she does tolerate it when I am playing it. I love classical music for the relaxing qualities of it. Traditional Chinese is similar to classical and I find it good to relax to, or study to.

If I am working outside or around the house, anything upbeat. My playlist covers about every genre there is. Music feeds the soul, and can lift the spirits.

I downloaded several from You Tube and I am not sure who the artists are. All I have listened to as far as traditional Chinese is concerned are awesome.

I have a favorite popular Chinese artist. residence A, these kids are awesome. I can't understand a word the say, but their music rocks.

Here is a couple links, first is for traditional Chines, and the second is Residence A.

Big Band & swing are just two of my favorites. I prefer metal before metal was named as such. Late 50's through the 60's. However there is one fairly new group with quite a club following the bands name is Fireball Ministry. Only released 4 albums so far but I love them all. Long live Black Sabbath, Elf, Rainbow, Steppenwolf, Ronnie James Dio and others who laid the foundations for todays Heavy Metal Music.

My dad was a musician. He played accordion professionally, locally, in a wedding/event band. Our house was always filled with music from all eras so I can appreciate it all. Neither my brother or I took up music or an instrument but we do love it.

My dad's most treasured moment was meeting and talking to Bob Hope and his wife Dolores when they were here in RI performing many years back.

Hardcore punk, underground rap, psychobilly, folk metal, math metal, crust punk, black metal, and sludge metal.

Most people are confused when it comes to crust and black metal, many respond to it well though.

You ever heard of BabyMetal? Think Japanese metal meets bubble gum pop vocals.

That's awesome. I get the same reaction when I tell other Rock fans about it. Well, now that I feel challenged to introduce a new song, how about Taste the Chain by The Hong Kong Sleepover and All the Things She Said by t.A.T.u?

Bluegrass covers

Here are a few of my favorites

Elton John's Rocket Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdAyO1_0noM

Modest Mouse's Float On http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVg1u6KqqqE

Also, having a 9 month old, I've found some baby music that not only keeps him quiet, but I can listen to and teach him the good stuff at the same time.

I don't know about introduced but returning to my roots after retiring. I have a relearned appreciation for Jazz Music and make my annual pilgrimage to the Corporate Woods Jazz Festival in Overland Park, KS every June. See you there if you're in the neighborhood.

About the only things I won't listen to are thug rap and country music. Everything else is pretty much on the playlist. Incidentally, after my recent assignment to Korea, I have grown a distinct taste for K-pop. Don't understand a damn thing they are saying, but they are entertaining to watch, and a lot of those songs actually have good beats.

Few people I've known have heard of Egypt Central. I first heard them on an old PS2 WWE Smackdown game.
