SN Greg Wright - I have a friend that uses Kindle and is the same way--would not be without it. I come from less modern technical background and never even think about these things.

SGT John " Mac " McConnell Cascade powdered laundry detergent works quite well, too. Great for burning large brush piles. We have a lot of trees and this is a great way to torch 'em!!!

I went and bought a boot drier after my first tour in Afghanistan. I took that with me to Iraq. By my second tour in Afghanistan we had boot driers issued so that no longer counts. I brought a mini coffee pot. I would strap it down inside the JERRV and make coffee first thing every morning.

Leave it to the Air Force to have hot, non-military issued coffee on deployment! :)

SCPO Charles Thomas "Tom" Canterbury - Senior, in case you didn't know (sorry, if you did!) you can edit your post to fix things like that if you want. Look for a little 'edit' link on the bottom left of your post.

Sgt Todd Van Dyke - Ah, good points. But I was coming from the perspective of the Navy, where none of that would be an issue. I can see how it might not work so well for Soldiers lol.

I am not sure that a Kindle or other electronic device would have held up in the wet jungles of Vietnam. I had my book wrapped in plastic.

Sgt (Join to see) - Lot of things are different now,Sgt.
Really hard to imagine being able to call home or text family during that time period.
At least the troops of the present do not spend 12 or 13 months completely out of touch
with everything in most situations.
