My family may be looking at a 2,900-mile move from West Coast to East Coast this year. Would love to stop somewhere nice along the way...

Not on a military installation but Cloudcroft, NM at roughly 9,000ft is one of my family's favorite. It is in the Lincoln National Forest. https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/lincoln/home

Lt Col (Anonymous): If I were you, I'd take I-40. That way you will get to stop at places along the New Mexcio/Arizona areas. Also, pick up a National Park/Forest pass which will get you reduced prices for camping, etc. at the National Parks/Forests. I'm not sure if Clovis still has military camping areas but that part of the country is really pretty. I-40 will also parallel Route 66 across parts of New Mexico/Arizona. Please stop in Williamsburg AZ to get good maps/directions and camping information for the Grand Canyon. There are several areas to camp in that whole area. You will also want to stop at the Hualapai Nation to walk out over the Grand Canyon.

Not on a military installation... but.... Try Echo Canyon Campsite in Dinosaur National Monument [The Utah Side]. I don't think they've paved the road in yet [used to be 4 wheel drive only, but I know that is changed]. It was never crowded. The swimming and fishing is great. Especially if you've got small kids. a mile hike in almost any direction puts you in small narrow limestone gorges with beautiful little private swimming holes. If I could only camp one place in the world, there's the spot.

Disclaimer I haven't been their in 20 years.

The RV park at MacDill AFB (Tampa), Naval Air Station Pensacola, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, and Mayport Naval base are all close, if not, on the beach.

Never stayed at it alway ran the trail that went by it, Tinker FamCamp. In all seriousness the only one stateside we have been to is http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/texas/randolph-canyon-lake-recreation-park almost 20 years ago. Went with Badmoon and TIDIMA all packed into TIDIMA’s Expedition family and all. Rained most of the weekend and they woke up to their tents flooding. Recommend picking up a National Park Access Pass, free access to national parks. https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm#CP_JUMP_5088576

Enjoy the trip!
