While I was section leader for the Bn Headquarters Tank Section, one day while in the field I told the Bn Cdr that when we got back to garrison he should attach the Hqs Tank Section to one of the line companies because "the Headquarters Company Commander doesn't know a damn thing about tanks, doesn't want to know a damn thing about tanks, and never will know a damn thing about tanks." The HHC Commander was standing right there when I said it.
When we got back to garrison, the headquarters tank section was not transferred to a line company, but I was.
A week later the HHC commander had a new job at Division -- apparently it took a week for the Bn Cdr to find that I had been telling the truth.

Former PFC here, married to an Army Officer, went to a meet cocktail party with hubby. Only one black man in the group, hubby introduces him as the guy who packs the parachutes (82d ABN DIV), and I stupidly say "so you're the token rigger?" Silence...from everyone around us...mortified, I left the party...
