I actually find it kind of funny. Is it disrespectful, I would say yes however, he was in places that 99% of Americans will never go. The reason I find humor in it is because I have heard so many "war stories" from veterans and Soldiers still serving that are maybe a little questionable. The bigger the audience the bigger the story gets.

At least he admitted to being a jackass. I am definitely not going to lose any sleep over it nor spend any of my give a shits complaining about it.

Spoken like a person that has actually walked some honest miles in his life. It is nothing more than another so what..... got bigger fish to fry. LOL could you imagine broadcast television if the people that tell "war stories" from their shock visits would be fired from the TV, that would be the end of tv at all. LOL
Have a beer and learn how to laugh. Move on.

I had already posted my opinion in this thread, however I did not want this to get buried in a sub-thread.

Apparently, Williams has been living this lie for a long time, and like an old fish story, it changes each time. So for him to post on Facebook that he got confused, I don't think so. He fabricated the story and has lost what little credibility he may have had.

A similar incident occurred during the 2008 presidential election when Dan Rather of CBS fabricated a story about then outgoing president Bush.

Tomorrow we will be discussing this in my reporting class (Ethics and credibility in reporting). The article we will be looking at is the one I posted here from Poynter.

He should be fired. Plain and simple. He mislead the public, and he mislead the public again in his apology. I don't buy for one minute that he "misremembered" the event. He made it up.

LTC (Join to see) Sir your question is valid and right, but I think it will be more what will happen now, not would should happen.

Even Mr Williams apologies seems to be likely filled with partial truths or lies.
End of the day what WILL happen? Nothing...it will fade away in a few days or weeks and he will return to business as usual.

What SHOULD happen? His current employer should fire him and other media employers should publicly state he is not wanted.

Somewhat ironic, since these reporters become famous for turning up dirt on other key figures, exposing frauds, hands in the cookie jars, etc....

I want to remember him for his other accomplishments, such as....

It's completely understandable....after all, I frequently am confused as to whether I was in a car accident on the way home from work or simply drove by one.

Even more than that "I attempted to honor his retirement by talking about my own stuff"....c'mon. Seriously?! Are we really THAT narcisstic that this idea was even entertained??

I simply wish he would have stated it was an error in judgment on his part and that he made a horrible mistake. The intestinal fortitude is extremely lacking, but that's a common theme anymore.....few people can admit that they made a horrible mistake.

Mr Williams is now not just a liar, but also a coward and an asshole.

CPT Butler

This infraction of integrity is as bad as someone who wears medals and awards they did not earn. There is such thing as embellishment but to outright lie about being in a combat situation when you were not is a slap in the face to those who have faced combat, to those wo were wounded or gave their lives in service to this nation in combat. Let punishment fit the crime.

I myself don't really care about the lying stuff and the legality of it...However this this special liberal princess need to go. He lost his honor and integrity. The 3 main networks need to get it together. Look how they report the news. All these news organizations report news now days from a viewpoint, and we the public only get 1/2 the truth.

Now their looking at other stories he reported on that are now under review.
No sympathy for this lil Darling
