Joe, First - congrats on your daughter following in your footsteps.
2nd. As I told my youngest son when he went to training, we will talk after you graduate. There is nothing that benefits from trying to explain the stress or the mind games played out in training. I did tell him that your granddads and I did it, hundred of thousands of others did it, you can do it. Don't quit and privately keep up you relationship with the Lord.

Thank you... I told her to build up her core strength and the rest will be a lot of educational mind games. She asked about church and I told her that I'm sure they had it but I'm not sure how it works out. Thanks again I am very proud of her!!!

Sorry,

Lots of idealist posts here...

I was in Security Forces as LE and frequently supporated our Security Specialists.

Rampant alcoholism amongst cops, door room frequento sexual abuse of female cops, NCOs who looked the other way or were involved, law enforcement tactics that often failed to disrespect civil laws, First Sgts that had a chip on their shoulders for cops who stood up against failed management and who made complaints.

If I had a daughter I would have never let her be a Security Forces member. I know the boys posted in DC and Dover AFB, this crap is still going on in the career field.

that is sad, I was one who's career was ruined. Medical record wiped. I still have the police record and important files. but, even my dental record is "missing" Wounded Warrior Project couldn't locate my file. it took me many years to file for anything and only after three mini strokes from a blood clot on my optic nerve-head trauma did the Va do anything for me. but, I will say as part of the bull shit hazing I was able to comfort a lot of rape victims on base. I couldn't stop the system from discharging them but-I
could be there to hold them and help them to focus on healing. I also was able after several years help with victims of war rape camps as a counselor as a peer advocate. I still am working on me but I was able to help many women with rape trauma and men with trauma because I can empathize-not going in to it.

It is why I said earlier demand respect and nothing less. do not give ground do not let those assholes intimidate you. let the bastards die or retire. rise to your own merit, set your standards above the mark, exceed, achieve excellence and never let your guard down. I did achieve many firsts for females, I did get airman of the year for my squadron, base and nominated for one of the 12 airmen of the year all the while my 1st shirt was trying to discharge me. mind your p's and q's they invent things to get you into trouble for.

There are some good Youtubes out there and of course some bad ones. I provide pre basic instruction to recruits. I have had to research the branches and play catch up with the times.
The branches also have great Apps and publish the recruit manuals. I find, however, that I end up being the one showing them these aides and apps. The info is out there.

SF was interesting work. Lots of teamwork, problem solving, it's one of the few combat arms fields in the Air Force, so there's a lot of physical work involved. Good luck to her

Why are you asking about "boot Camp" and "A
school"? Those are Navy terms. You mean Basic Training and Tech School. Surely a TSgt knows that.

You might not have seen it on the other comment, but the OP mentioned that he was AD Army & Navy, and then Air National Guard... so his experience may have used different terms than those in the standard AF training regimen.

Edit: clarified post

Yeah I probably do if I thought about it, in my 28 years of service I served in the Army, Navy and in the Air Force...I sometimes get things confused. Thanks four point in those out.

Sorry Bruh, but Boot Camp is a Generic Term. Even though the AF's is the easiest to get through and it might not RATE being a Boot Camp, we still call it that. As far as 'A' School... Well, I called all of my Squadron Commanders, "Skipper." They understood and knew it was not some derogatory or demeaning name.

I’ll give you some helpful tips that my parents did for me and some that I myself had to learn.
1. Be able to pass the PT requirements before shipping out. She will probably be sick and/or sleep deprived on top of stressed out which will all affect her ability to pass so get the head start jump.
2. Learn the Air Force song and the Airman’s creed.
3. Learn the ranks and insignias.
4. Practice drill moves and facing movements.
5. Realize that you will be yelled at. Leave the attitude at the door of your house because you won’t need it there.
6. Don’t listen (or rather take to heart) the tone of the TI. Listen to the words they are telling you. That’s the important part.
7. If you have guns, practice shooting. While it will be a different gun she shoots in BMT at least she gets target practice.
8. If she takes forever in the shower, start shaving off those minutes now.
9. Practice putting your hair in regulation style. (Believe me as a newb it took many of us a good long time to figure it out. Especially with curly hair.)
10. Realize early you have two hands to eat with. When drinking water during your BMT meals take small sips between bites. If you don’t it is likely you will throw up. Ask me how I know...lol.

I hope this helps. Feel free to DM me if you or your daughter have any specific questions.

In the Air Force?...I don't know...a walk in the park? The ability to call your superiors by their first name? A silly-looking uniform? Casual Fridays? A bunch of ribbons for getting 10 out of 50 rounds on a piece of paper from an arm's distance away? Don't you guys have ice cream parties when someone is promoted or something? I'm just shooting from the hip here.

To be honest, Basic Training is still the mind game it always has been. However, the Air Force only teaches the Basic Skills for the Airman. We have been able to condence the training and leave out the time wasting non sense. Security Forces Tech School is a continuation of Basic Training. They will learn the basic skills of LE, Security, integrated base defense, and the security in depth concept (that most Marines do not get).

We are a different animal. We breath the Bull Shit the rest of the Air Force Complains about. We are the one of only a few AFCSs outside of our Combatants (CCT, PJ) that actually understand base defense and what "Field Conditions" really is.

If she wants to serve her country AFSF is an awesome place. If she wants to sit on her ass and complain about the military she needs to go into medical records or an MPF AFSC.

As for shooting at targets at arms distance away, most Security Forces Airmen will shoot full distance range targets and will have to qualify on them as part of their IBD training.

MSgt (Join to see) When I went through SF school in 94 we had to qualify to Army standards in pistol and rifle. That included pop up targets ranging from 25-300 meters if I remember correctly.
