Doesn't matter if you agree with this move or not - it's been directed and it's happening. What are your suggestions for renaming the following bases?

- Fort Bragg
- Fort Rucker
- Fort Benning
- Fort Gordon
- Fort Hood
- Fort Polk
- Fort A.P. Hill
- Fort Belvoir
- Fort Lee
- Fort Pickett

In no particular order:

Fort (Clara) Barton-Founder of the American Red Cross

Fort (Mary Ann) Bickerdyke-US Sanitary Commission and made Union generals pay attention

Fort (Juliet Gordon) Lowe-Founder of the Girl Scouts, born in Savannah

Fort (Mary Edwards) Walker-Union Army Surgeon

Fort (Harriet) Tubman-Union spy, underground railroad conductor

Fort (Sharon Ann) Lane-1LT, Army Nurse Corps, KIA Chu Lai, 1969

Fort (Dan) Bullock-Okay, he was a Marine but he was the youngest KIA (15 years old) in Vietnam, and African American

Fort (Oveta Culp) Hobby-First Director of the Women's Auxillary Army Corps (1942)

Fort (Frances) Stanger-LT, Army Nurse Corps, KIA. 1944. One of 4 ANC officers to come ashore on D-Day and ONLY ANC officer to die in the European Theater

Fort (Frances Olive) Chesley-2LT, Army Nurse Corps-KIA (Kamikaze attack) while assigned to the USS Comfort. Okinawa, April, 1944

Fort (Ashley) White-1LT, Medical Service Corps. KIA, Kandahar Province, 2011.

Fort (Anna Mae) Hays-Army Nurse Corps, first woman to be promoted to Brigadier General. Died in 2018

You guys spotting a trend?

This revisionist history crap is wearing thin. People who are offended by the smallest things, including base names are showing just how weak and sensitive Americans have become. It's a sad day when pretty much anything is a reason to be offended and have your feelings hurt. Grow up, people.

Leave the names of these military instalations alone. Why do some want to change history to benefit their view? History is real, it did happen. Just because it hurts some idiots feelings dosen't mean we should change and forget history to please the few. What is happening to this great country? We need to get it back on the track and preserve history, and not destroy it.

I have always been a student of History, I revere it, and believe as the old saying goes, "paraphrased", those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.

All that said, I agree 100% these forts SHOULD be renamed. The history we NEED to remember in this moment is, the names of those leaders "honored" were in fact TRAITORS to our country (later pardoned). They took up arms against their country to defend (among other things) the institution of slavery. At the time that may have been acceptable, but NOT today. They were given this honor by ex confederates that did a damn good job trying to REWRITE history. In no other country on Earth is the "defeated" traitors honered by the country they rebelled against.

I see some of the same "mistakes today". Apparently some are not willing to learn from the past.

I would like to see the names of some of the Past units / Post that were involved in conflicts ex. Like the screaming eagles, or for like Ft. Polk name it after one of the famous Battleships, its going to be hard to come up with a way to make everyone satisfied but this is something that needs to be done.

"Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it" -Santayana. Leave it. This concept of wiping history from the earth because someone has hurt feelings is the same as blaming forks for obesity.

Only In America Would It's Citizens Screw Themselves & Create Bad Relationships With Each Other Based On Truthful Information. Inflicting Punishment On Ourselves And Saying "It's Best For History"....We're Only Fooling Ourselves & Showing Our Stupidity To The Rest Of The World.. "YES", Of Course, We Really ARE A Bunch Of Fum Ducks, After All.

If they do decide to change names, Congress must FULLY fund it. The present funding is JUST for a commission to study it. It will be an outrageous cost that BaseOps funding can never meet. Think about it - every post regulation, form, flyer, web site, topo map, etc. One California city changed the name of it's City Hall building -- one building -- and cost almost a million dollars. It will completely kill operating budget if Congress makes them do it without funding.
