Doesn't matter if you agree with this move or not - it's been directed and it's happening. What are your suggestions for renaming the following bases?

- Fort Bragg
- Fort Rucker
- Fort Benning
- Fort Gordon
- Fort Hood
- Fort Polk
- Fort A.P. Hill
- Fort Belvoir
- Fort Lee
- Fort Pickett

If we're sticking with names, then maybe the names of officers who were actually good tacticians and not poor decision-makers like almost all on this list, with Lee as an exception. Politics aside, we should use this change as an opportunity to put names with values IAW Army values & exceptional leadership, not handing out installation names to the confederates as a consolation prize.

"With malice toward none; with charity for all; ..... to bind up the nation's wounds;" (A Lincoln, 2nd inaugeral)
Past time to let it go. However, if we are going to flog dead horses, remember "confederates" were ultimately Democrats who took up arms to destroy our Republic. (A statement of fact; not a political statement. It DOES NOT speak to their motives, only what they did.) I believe that constitutes treason.

I say BS, they earned honor by fighting for their country after succession. They deserve the deserve the right that was granted to bring about a united country. It’s not a good idea to rewrite History, it will always bite you in the ass!

Probably 99% never even knew they were Confederate Generals. The money that it will take to rename could have been spent on better conditions on those base for the troops. Maybe make a list of exactly who was offended by the name, and it would probably not be those in the military

I agree with Cpl Burk, leave it alone. Just because they were born south of the mason Dixon line! We follow our commander and chief without question and they followed their leader. If we do that, then get rid of union and confederate. Lets just pretend it never happened. Like he said, we can't erase history and if we just close our eyes we will never learn from it.

Each name change costs mullions of dollars and we are running the country in the red already! We need to be more responsible with our money. Nobody alive today was a slave under those people and at that time slavery was legal! This in no way says I agree with slavery. It means that the names of the posts make no difference to anyone but the most ardent cry babies on earth. Let's not pretend that anyone is teaching about these people in our schools today! We should not be wasting funds that we borrow on stupid crap like this...

They should just rename them the nicknames the service members gave to each. But it's just sad to see even the DOD buckle under the pressure from those wishing to erase the parts history we don't agree with. These names should instead be talking points to educate people and learn from past mistakes.
