My argument is not to keep a Confederate namesake for these parts, but rather that the blood, sweat and tears that fellow servicemen and women have baptized these places with over the years has given them life and legend well beyond the people for whom they were named. We are doing a disservice to those service members who served at those places by erasing the history of their names.

My suggestion: fire the generals and vote out the privileged congress who made this move. Changing names doesn’t change history. We all embrace the good the bad and the ugly. My
