As a former military I spent time at several of the sites listed above. Who are we trying to placate and remove history from our past? Brave Americans on both sides sacrificed during the Civil War, which will remain forever a part of our becoming the great nation that we are today.

The censor won't let me post our ideas for a "Black" fort. It would only allow "Fort Black" or "Fort Negro". LOL. NO insult intended because the name was suggested by an African American Veteran as a joke.

It's not about remembering history or historical figures. It was about placating racists. It makes as much sense as renaming Pearl Harbor to Tojo Naval Base.

History need not be changed by the change of a name. Honor is another issue. There is no sense in honoring traitors. Change the names to honor heroism and leadership and sacrifice for our great nation not against it. Better yet, name them for the county or city that hosts them.

This one is near and dear to my heart. I was a major opponent of changing names but recently listened to a podcast and have been swayed. One crime is listed in Constitution that's Treason. By definition they committed treason against the United States of America. The CSA attacked the US and in the end lost the war. So a simple question would it be ok for Japan to place monuments at Pearl Harbor? No and u may say that's a different country your right but four years so we're the Confederate States. I understand tradition I know in the end Ft Bragg will always be Bragg but they attacked the US and lost we shouldn't really honor that. Now I'm ok with street names staying the same halls and buildings not be changed. Another issue with this topic if it's completely about slavery and its impact on the war a lot more things have to change example me.orials is DC have to come down college names need changed names of States ect. Where do we draw the line? Change base names and move on that's my suggestion.

No one is trying to erase history. We are trying to redress a wrong - the wrong of naming military bases for criminals. Rename all of them. No matter how much glory paint you try to splash on the men whose names are on that list of forts, the inescapable fact remains that they were traitors. They violated their oaths of service and waged war against the government they had sworn to serve. That is the very Constitutional definition of treason. They do not deserve to have military installations named for them and the sooner those forts are renamed, the better. Hell, Fort Hood is named after my ancestor, and I say he was a traitor and the installation should be renamed NOW.

CPT Hood, would you consider changing your last name to remove the daily reminder of the treason your ancestors brought onto the country? Everyday you wear your uniform with Hood on your right you do nothing to redress a wrong and continue to promote the Hate he fought for.

These forts should have never been named after Confederate generals many of whom were incompetent or proponents of slavery and hardly someone for service members to look up to. Imagine Germany naming kasernes after Nazi generals. There are plenty of true American heroes to name forts after starting with the most decorated, Alvin York, Audie Murphy, Daniel Daly, Edward Rickenbacker, Lewis "Chesty" Puller, and James Williams. We could also name the forts after Medal of Honor winners.

Our country (or any other country for that matter) isn’t perfect. Mistakes were made from the beginning and are still being made. There is a choice, remove parts of our history or learn from past experiences. Take the chance of making the same mistakes again or preventing them from happening again. If we keep this up (renaming, removing statues, etc.) we won’t have a history. We’ll be no better than the Taliban or ISIS destroying ancient monuments or scared sites because they don’t fit our current philosophy. Do you want to completely erase our history? Or do you want to keep getting better?

No one is erasing history. By your reasoning, Germany should name its bases Hitler, Goebbels, etc. What we are doing is removing the names of traitors to the USA. Should a Base be named after Benedict Arnold? Has he been erased from our history?

Not Exactly Sure Of What You Stated, But IF You Meant: "Screw That, Don't Make Any Name Changes To Our Military Installations", I'd Totally Agree With Your Statement.
