Good morning. I am considering a new career to keep me pumped up as I start to reach my top potential in employment. I retired from the US NAVY Oct 2005 and have continued to work since then. I am an empty nester and looking to find a new career to take me to the finish line in about 5 to 6 years. I'm presently working as a Workers Compensation Specialist and love it however due to the job similarities on almost each case, I find myself wanting more challenges in a career and would love to hear some ideas my brothers and sisters in arms may have?

Your profile doesn't give us a lot to go on, so my answers may be disconnected from what could be possible for you. Here's some ideas:
-Equal Opportunity Counselor/Investigator
-Social Worker. Requires advanced degree and licensing in some states.
-Community College or High School Career Counselor. May require licensing.
-State Campground Host. Live at State Campground during the camping season. Collect fees and assign camping spaces. Make sure State laws, rules, etc. are followed.
-Community College Professor. May require advanced degree and possible certification.

Thank you so much LT. Col for your advice. Sorry not much content as this was the first time getting on the site. I have a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Business Management. Have been working for the Department of Veterans Affairs for about 11 years and love my job but I'm looking for new challenges and better upward mobility with experience. Am willing to move for new position as my wife and I are new empty Nesters as of January this year. I do like the Counselor/Investigator positions as I have teaching experience from the NAVY and Teaching youth at Church, and have Base Police experience/Master-At-Arms experience from the NAVY on board the USS Forrestal AVT-59 prior to Decommission in 1993. Thanks again, have a great day Sir.
Sincerely,

PO1 John Weaver now that I know more the Community College Professor or councilor looks like a real possibility. Within the VA you could apply for EEO jobs. Also possibly for patient advocate job. You might like process improvement work.

I would advise you not to discontinue a career that you love. Many people will kill to be in your position.
