Sir, with the recent force shaping and cutbacks on military retention incentive bonuses. Will we be seeing the bonuses return or are they a permanent cut back? Also are we going to continue to see more cutbacks and any that will greatly effect the Air Force enlisted force?

Why did the AF start placing SO MUCH weight on PT, especially on the EPRs??

Um, I've been out for nearly 3 years, and even then, they had started putting major weight on the PT test. If you've been passing, it is nothing more than a checked box, but if you fail, it became a referral EPR, even if you had a firewall 5. The failed PT test pretty much rendered it a dud. I've seen quite a few good folks' careers--good ones--take a turn just because of a failed PT test. Something gets messed up due to overuse--knees(especially those), feet, shins, and it's not quite the same, and it becomes a struggle to control weight and maintain endurance, despite the careful eating. If anything, based off of what my friends who are still in tell me, it's slowly gotten worse.

Tamita you are correct in that statement. If you did fail the PT it was a automatic referral EPR.

The system recently changed. The new comprehensive airmen assessment form places a greater emphasis on PT and scores will now be evaluated in promotion boards along with EPRs.

I had multiple injuries to one of my knees while I was in the service. I have over 5 years of documented physical therapy, cortison shots, x-rays, MRi's, and surgery. To this day I still have major knee pain and nearly every tendon in the area of my knee is super tender. Not even my cat can "walk" across my lap without causing undue amounts of pain.
Due to my knee injuries, surgeries and what-not, I easily reached the "Maximum" number of allowable waivers for the PT test. Because of that, I was essentially forced to perform PT Tests without the waivers, despite years of physical therapy and recent surgeries.
I understand there's a "limit" to how much the AF can do for an individual. I got to the point where I was facing a Med-Board, but that would happen after I had "failed" a fourth PT Test (which would see me administratively discharged first, for failure to maintain PT standards).
And yet, a TSgt I worked with had been trying for a Med-Board for all three plus years I worked with him due to a shattered vertebrae that essentially left him unable to turn his head and cause major back pain.
Sorry. I just don't see how he was "allowed" to continue to serve essentially on a permanent waiver with a "broken back". Yet, while I was going through similar situations with my knee; I was essentially forced out. Yes, I took Voluntary Sep. But that was mainly because it was essentially thee only method I was going to maintain an Honorable Discharge.

Sorry for ranting. I completely understand the need to maintain/improve the physical fitness of the AF. I 'm more confused at how the system would allow one individual to stay in, yet remove another for seemingly similar problems.

Sir.

The A-10 is a magnificent close air support aircraft that inspires fear in our enemy and hope and pride in our armed forces. Why remove it completely? I understand budget concerns, but I also understand the history of poor fiscal management by the Air Force.

Why not just replace it with a new low cost, Aircraft? Or just make a new A-10, using the same design, with new material technology?

If you made a bare bones aircraft using modern material and modern Aircraft Hardware/software (Not F-35 modern, I am talking about the versions of hardware and software in fighters now) with the same design, you seem to get rid of the negatives of the old air frame, while keeping the positives of exceptional ground support, inducing fear in our enemy, and providing a symbol of hope for our ground forces.

First sir thank you for this unique opportunity to tap into your insight and experience.
(Also kudos to the RP staff - this is what makes RP a great site)

My question is about the F-35.
As China's 5th gen J-31, J-20 and Divine Eagle drone come on line and close the gap on the kill ratio of the F-35 is the stealth race in terms of piloted air frames nearing its end or will it just evolve with the integration of RQ-170's/180's like technology? How does the F-35 address the new advanced IADS that China and Russia are developing and is this economically feasible in its approach?

Good morning (Ret) General Norton Schwartz-

I wanted to discuss the future leadership of the Air Force, computer based training (CBT) and the continual cost of F-35 program.

-I have personally dealt with bad leadership and good leadership. The biggest concern I see is that some leaders destroy the members dreams instead giving them the tools for success. This situation creates a vacuum of negativity and that member ends up leaving. When I was enlisted I changed my AFSC based on loss of confidence in my leadership. I would like to see a better way of making sure are leaders are working to see the success of our junior enlisted and junior officers. Also, we do have airmen who have there hand held too much and don't have the drive or desire to serve. We need to make sure the subordinate and leader are held accountable.

- F-35 how much money has gone to this program? And how much has been taken away from other programs. Can we keep the A-10?

-Can we streamline CBT?

Thanks for your time and service
