So I have been Military Police for almost 7 Years now. My battalion held a Spur Ride in 2017 where I earned my silver Spurs. So my question would be, am I authorized to wear said Spurs at formal dining ins. I ask because I am currently attending ALC and just wanted to find out if I can wear them to our dining in? I ask because I cant seem to find any regulation or documentation about who and when can spurs be worn other than CAV units. Thank you and any references would be greatly appreciated. Note to be added, Ive never been attached to a CAV unit.

You're pretty much only going to wear Stetsons and Spurs while assigned to CAV units during CAV functions. Outside of those exceptions, they are unauthorized items and can't be worn.

Speaking of wearing spurs on airplanes: once I wore my spurs to a formal diner & dance. While dancing, I almost tripping a lady by catching her heel with my spur, I took them off and never did that again.

In regards to wearing your Spurs to the Dining In at ALC, your best bet is to just ask the Cadre. They may well be lenient in this. At my SLC, there was a guy who wore his Stetson and Spurs during graduation.

Only times that spurs (with or without the additional cowboy/cav hat) don’t look completely ridiculous: 1. Halloween. 2. Second job as a stripper. 3. Civil war re-enactment.

Being outside the unit footprint I would advise against wearing your spurs. On Fort Hood there is a policy for the wear of stepsons and spurs as long as you are within the unit footprint. For example, Stetsons are not authorized for wear at the PX.

Spurs and CAV hats aren't actual uniform items. They can't be worn with a uniform.

That being said, a Commander always has the ability to modify uniforms (by, for instance, authorizing the wear of a funny hat), but only within that Commander's area of responsibility. A Squadron Commander can't put on his funny hat and cruise on over to BDE HQ, just because he has authorized himself to wear it.

As long as your commander approved it, and it's also depended on your instillation. I to have done a spur ride at FT Hood with 1st CAV and they let us when it to balls, payday activities, and usually on Friday's you see people wearing them.

Hate to factious but; a choice of one these brands below and you can wear them with civies any time you want: https://usamadeproducts.biz/footwear-cowboy-boots.html As to wearing them as a uniform item,,, only in the Cav, and mostly for formal functions.

Just guessing you only have the Spurs, Traditionally the Stetson is wore more often then the Spurs. In My Humble opinion wearing them (Stetson and Spurs) With out being assigned and in CAV Country is about like wearing a German weapons Qualification rope when not in Country Pretty much Unit wear.
