Can't tell when it went away, but according to June 1944 War Department TM 12-427, Military Occupation Classification of Enlisted Personnel, page 15 shows a 022 Barber as an MOS.

CW3 (Join to see) it appears to have disappeared between June 1994 and 1950. http://www.koreanwar-educator.org/topics/p_mos.htm#AlphaIndex

My money is on the massive 1948 drawdown. Purely a guess.

LTC Jason Mackay I have narrowed it down to a similar time period sir as I cannot seem to find the MOS mentioned at a later date.

LTC Jason Mackay - The last link you provided still shows the barber MOS as 4022 in 1950.

I have been getting haircuts on military bases for 68 years and have never run across a barber that was other than a civilian AAFES employee.

I am fairly certain they existed before either during the Vietnam era or before.

Company barber is not an MOS, it is just a soldier that is a barber in civilian life or is able to do a high and tight. He is issued the company barber kit and keeps everyones hair cut.

I realize it no longer exists, hence my question. However I have found several references to it existing in the past, but cannot determine when specifically it was eliminated.

It was not an MOS just an additional duty, at least when I was in. Besides, it gives an HR holder for the barber kit. Idea is to get someone on HR for everything on the company property book.

MAJ Ronnie Reams What you say seems most likely. It was an extra duty like the ADPSSO (if they still even have that) and not a primary MOS.

MAJ Ronnie Reams It *was* an MOS during WW2. I am speaking historically. I am trying to determine when it was eliminated.
