I never looked at the term as being divisive. If anything, I used it as a term of endearment applying to those doing a job some of the rest of us either did not or were not qualified to do. Consider yourself one of a select few who may know all the secret truths...Spooks are everywhere.

PO2 Robert M. - My Dad was a "Spook". CPO CT Retired 1971 (Passed in 2000) Served from 1946 to 1971. Trying to piece his service together. Went from Norfolk to who knows (before me) to UK, to Guam, Phillipines, Hawaii, San Diego and back to Norfolk and Virginia Beach before retiring. He always seemed SO PROUD to be a Spook. My Mom served for 4 years out of college and toted Classified Tubes to him when in DC, Maryland ??? Early before my Bro (1956) and me later (1963). Mom always called him a "Spook" and he NEVER told me a stitch of what he did or what it was for! :) ??? Secrets!

PO2 Robert M. - I Remember the CHENG on the Arkansas when I was TAD on the Arkansas for Desert Storm, I was in Sharks Cove Olongapo and IS1 Fell Out Laughing right beside me. "What the Hell is So Funny" "See who just came down from Upstairs Playing Smiles, It's the Cheng" I Also remember the Next CHENG on the Arkansas when I was Ship's Company for Desert Strike, He Was one of our TAOs so We Briefed Him. We're Pulling in Back Home an see a Hell of a Spike on the O Scope. We Crank it up on the Receiver just to Hear the CHENG on His Cell Phone Talking to the Wife. We Just went Outside and got on Either Side of Him "What, What? No You Guys weren't Listening" We Just Grinned at Pointed at the Antenna He was standing beside. "You Guys Suck".

@PO1 Larry Beach, Ghosts is Appropriate, As Far as the Rest of the Crew Knew we passed thru walls and were not seen except in Port. They Also Knew it was a Death Sentence to even try and access the Reactor or "Outboard" the Spook Space if you weren't authorized.

PO2 Robert M. - I stopped the civilian SES commander of our installation from entering our SCIF because he didn't have his badge, and I didn't know him personally. He got mad, but went and got his badge and then came back.

They called them spooks when I was in, also. I never heard anyone raise the race card issue over the term. I think if they had, they would have been ridiculed highly for the "blatant misuse". Since it does not refer to any kind of race. They should be ridiculed for that today, also. We need to stop letting the LOUD, unbound and moronic.....from dictating what words mean or meant, and what words we can use and can't. Talk about attacking Free Speech. Gee whiz..... Attacking the damn dictionary and thesauruses, also....it seems.
