I wouldn't wear mine in public even if it did fit. I'm not ashamed of the uniform but I am of our government. On Veterans Day I may put my Viet Nam Ribbons on my vest but thats it. The people I know and love knows and that is enough for me.

I refuse to call these Marines my brethren. They should be charged with crimes and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If I had my way, I would kick them out of the Corps

It would seem as if they didn't even give the man a chance before charging in and messing with him. The guy's proobably got more salt than the Dead Sea, having served in such an intense war. I'd rather our youngest troops look up to these older warriors, ask questions, show respect and learn what they can, but obviously that wasn't the case here.

Then there's the fact that, despite his age, he's probably been through a lot of crap, and as such, shouldn't be pushed into a fight or flight situation. Those boots could have easily been on the recieving end themselves if they pushed him too hard.

I'm sorry to hear about this gentleman being mistakenly a fake that it is why people shouldn't go on a "witch hunt", you never know about a person unless you take the time to learn something about that individual. It isn't worth humiliating a person for stolen valor, let him or her make a fool of themselves somewhere down the line they will get tire of being a donkey.

Shameful to say the least. Apparently our current generation of Marines are not taught courtesy.

Once I saw a civilian female wearing a mini humanitarian service medal on her lapel it was as she said something her son was awarded shortly before he died. I suppose some would try to be hero would film her and try to make a senior citizen cry, myself I have a rather large assortment of campaign ribbons that span 22 years of military service, but then again I do not wear those awards with civilian attire.

People need to stop worrying about wannabe's and focus on the true stolen valor cases - those you steal benefits approved for real Veterans. If you want to fake who you are so you get a thanks or a discount, it does not affect my honor one bit, but it speaks volumes about your character.

SGT Shannon Wasielewski Well said. There are many 5150's... crazy people who go from being a mess sgt in Vietnam to leading an SF platoon. Its just a mental state. But, there are those who attempt to steal, like you said and should be held accountable.

This is really disturbing to read. Yes there are posers out there some of which actually served and were not honorably discharged or were generally discharged and they like to pretend they are veterans like the rest of us. HOWEVER this is no about posers, this about honor and setting appropriate examples of serving any and all military branches. Those punks that confronted that man should be disciplined for the immaturity and bullying stance that they took. Even if they were right, they were wrong.................!

Horrible. Attacking one of our own is just as bad as pretending to be one of us when you are not. When I see another fellow wearing a cap proclaiming WW2, Korea, or Viet Nam service, I simply thank them... Are some of them fakers? Maybe. But unless I am damned sure I'd never call them out. I see a lot of guys sporting "Special Forces" or "SEALs" caps that I have questioned, but I would never publicly challenge them unless I was DAMNED sure they were frauds.

Now, a 400lb guy in ACUs or OPCs with SF shoulder insignias or Ranger scrolls... Or wearing the uniform incorrectly... Oh hell yeah... I wanna see a CAC card.

Dang. That is sad and disgraceful. Especial a Purple Heart Vet x2, Once a year or so , I used to wear my "war hero jacket" , usually Veteran or Memorial Day, I'd not like to see some young fools attack me, as I usually go armed. They would believe real quick I am a vet or they can die, don't matter to me, I don't take getting assaulted by anyone way too easy to get killed in street fighting. That is why I have not worn my jacket in the past few years.
