As much as I appreciate those who are being vigilant and calling out the fakes I have just a few simple thoughts on the subject. If you aren't in that branch of service that they're claiming to be from you had better be damn sure you know what you're talking about. I would never be able to call out a sailor or airman or soldier about something on their uniforms because I simply don't know shit about them. A fake Marine on the other hand, I could spot a mile away. So since I don't know anything about the other branches, I don't go around assuming that every person that I see in uniform is a stolen Valor imposter, and I certainly don't attempt to call them out on their nonsense because for all I know, they're who they claim to be. Simply put, if you don't know don't just assume it makes the great men like this gentlemen afraid to be proud of what they did because some punk boot wants to look good to his buddies for ripping some civilian a new asshole when in reality those punks were the assholes.

blind patriots... know why they'll NEVER win? ...because they have absolutely no idea what they're fighting for.

bunch of assholes. If someone wants to wander around wearing military surplus are they going to assault them too?

why not just treat them like those dickheads wearing "The North Face" jackets?

"Oh... I see you're wearing The North Face... ..you must have so many adventures!"

This is sickening. I hope the Marines that were involved, stand up and apologize to this Veteran. Shameful behavior.

in my experience with a similar situation, They are Marines, the likelihood of that happening is slim to none. they are too "I'm better than anything" to admit to doing any wrong. Granted, I have met some admirable Marines, and ones who serve with honor, and show it in their daily lives, but sadly in this day and age, that is getting harder and harder to come by, mainly in the Marine Corps, but in every branch. This new crop doesn't know much about Honor.

For crooked ribbons, these Marines should have tried a little harder to find something else to warrant a Stolen Valor accusation.

"While police finally intervened and made the group apologize to Hughes – he says that’s not enough. He doesn’t want this to happen to another veteran..." Isn't this assault? Did I miss something???

MSgt Curtis Ellis It was an assault, misdemeanor.... and getting a DA to prosecute is ridiculously unlikely. The police "may" have referred the marines names to the provost.

what happens when its a former Marine turned police officer, accusing you of that in the same manner? at what point does integrity become lost for him, as the Marine, or as the police officer, or both? It happened to me, and there was no apology given, or any attempt at admitting wrongdoing. I was Assaulted by both a Marine in Marine fashion, and a Cop, in the same fashion, and he was both. ZERO integrity and honor, and I have suffered with it because of that. my wifes family read it in the paper, and they now want nothing to do with me, OR her, refuse any proofs, even though it was dropped. the paper never retracted it, even though I showed the judge my DD214 and discharge papers, and he dismissed the case. He was the only person to apologize to me.
