Honestly, nowadays, when I think of Civil Rights....I think of how PISSED OFF MLK would be if he came back alive today and see how far his work has crumbled. The sea of hatred and intolerance has become bigger and angrier creating bigger cracks and holes in the wall that stems back the flow, and the individuals that fight the good fight to ensure equality for all, sure aren't a lot of us standing their with our fingers plugged into those holes and cracks.

Protests, civil disorder, property destruction, racial strife.

What was once a critical need in our society has become an excuse for abuse of others, but this is starting to be recognized and corrected.

"Arizona lawmakers are debating a controversial new measure to expand the state’s current ‘ban’ on ethnic studies classes to state colleges and universities. The original ban, passed in 2010, extends to Arizona’s public and charter primary and secondary schools.

If approved, the new expansion would prohibit colleges and universities in Arizona from holding classes that ‘promote division, resentment, or social justice toward a race, gender, religion, political affiliation, social class or other class’ in addition to classes targeting a single ethnic group. Schools that violate the ban would risk losing up to 10 percent of their funding from the state."

SGT (Join to see), I think the birthers were wasting their time - although to be fair, Obama fed that narrative for many years by trying to keep everything about his past secret and lying about much of it. It was difficult NOT to be suspicious of Obama, given his provocative actions.

Was needed when implemented, Now all it does is remind me of how whiney people have become.
We have/had a Black President for crying out loud, grow up.
Harsh, maybe but needed to be said.
Not directed at you Cornell.

When you think of Civil Rights, what are the things that come to your mind?

Tired and Old political leaders that need to be replaced with new thinking and someone more energetic. Democrats hanging onto them and following the old SEAT FOR LIFE, Soviet Politburo model of government. Lets have new people with energy, new ideas, restore vigourous debate over new ideas to the House of Representatives again!

I know this has nothing to do with this subject but I'm thinking about joining the Military, I'm stuck between the Airforce and Marines.

Education! Education is the new civil rights divide and so many people are choosing to be second class citizen because that is "cooler" than studying or "acting white". We have a generation flushing itself down the toilet because they won't pick up a book.

When I think Civil Rights, I automatically think of the Civil Rights movement. But if you were looking for specific things, I wouldn't even call them Civil Rights anymore. To me, they are just Rights because I see us as equals all together in the pursuits of Life, Liberty, and the happiness.

SGT (Join to see) 1st, how far we have come in America. 2nd, how far we still have to go. Yes, I know that is two things, but if I said just first it would seem incomplete.

How Jim Crow laws and segregation lasted as long as it did. How it was the democrats in the south that fought to keep it. A sitting state governor standing in a door trying to block kids from going to school because of their color.

I think of the bravery of the Civil Rights movement and the marchers who risked their lives to foster justice and equality. In the military, I was honored to serve next to different ethnicities, genders and faiths and built life-long friendships with those individuals. I am saddened by what America has become.
