When your children began experiencing their "coming of age" issues, demands, and personalities, how did you deal with those dynamics?

"Footloose", the 1983 movie is a coming of age movie. The burning issues that caused parents and teenagers to collide were: drinking, driving, death, dancing, sex, and sin. I was in the Med when I saw this movie. The audio was Italian or French with English subtitles.

Although I THOUGHT I'd Replied To This Question, I'll Give It Another Shot - Just-In-Case
I Didn't. -- - Once My Daughters Hit The Age Of 18, I Became Their "Father" Or I'd Become Their "Dad", Depending Upon The Situation-- ANY Situation -- YES , Those Also. As A DAD - -- -OR I Could Lie To Them Like Most Men Giving "FATHERLY" Advise.
But I As Well As They Want The Truth & That's What The Get From Their "DAD" - If You Feed Your Children BULL- They'll Soon Discover It - And That's When Their Trust In You Begins Dwindling. - Don't Allow It To Happen To You -- Be Truthful -- And Your Children Will Appreciate It As Much As Mine Do.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney as you have said, I found being truthful even if it les to a deeper crack, always leaves the door open for resolution because somewhere in the ending of an impass the truth helps the resolution.

My kids are coming of age now and I'm still at a loss for how I'll deal with them. LOL

LTC Trent Klug I did not see this response coming. I snickered. I can certainly say this movie is spot on. There is a 2000s version but I like this version because my generation are the actors. I know you like the movie.

Our children waited to "come of age" in their 40's and threw us away. We congratulated them and left the state, and are now living life as a couple. It's wonderful. We love them and wish them well, but feel like slaves who have lost our chains...

Negotiation...figure out what you can't tolerate and hold to that...ignore or just "lightly protest" so they have limits to push against and get a feeling of independence when they cross those lines...
Example: our son colored his hair (hubby lost his mind over this, LOL), I said, I don't like it but it is your hair...and it will eventually grow out. What I cannot tolerate, is lying, drugs, cheating or stealing...need something? Ask!
