The recent conversations with Poland may put the US and Russia up against each other via proxies. I don't think either of us is crazy enough to go head to head.

SGT Jim Arnold; you are not crippled at all to assist RP in influencing change for a better morrow. We fought and we suffered; we know the loopholes in the system and we, together, can make a difference for our future generations to enjoy a world of love and compassion. The campaign begins with us on RP, because we volunteered or we were drafted; we served honorably and now, we deserve help, compassion and respect. We can do it, but only collectively and your handicap or mine is lesser of the two evils. Let's pledge to change our future today. Thanks. COL Mikel J. Looking at the preponderance of opinion at 60% is frightening in and of itself. Looks like many of us see the current world situation alike. Must be a reason.

What constitutes a "world war"? Does it involve someone trying to conquer and take other countries by force. Or is it just determined by the total number of militaries involved? If so, how many?

I think WWIII has already been defined as a nuclear war in which no one really wins as we're all knocked back to the 1800's. So unless that happens, I don't think we'll have a WWIII. We may have a really big war, but it'll be called something else.

Very few areas are tangled enough to cause an all out world war. The biggest threat of an all out world war is a NATO article 5 infringement. A world war would have to involve USA, Russia, China, Germany, and UK at minimum. So where do all these powers have friction points? I would think Eastern Europe. All others are just regional.

We are already in WWIII. The Battle of Tel Hai, March 1, 1920 was the opening battle. The forced break up of the Ottoman Empire after WWI left a power vacuum. The Western powers, specifically France and Britain dropped the ball in the Levant and surrounding territories. The historic enmity between Middle Eastern Jewish populations and Arab/Bedouin populations sparked. Over time that conflict has touched every continent except Antarctica.

I like the idea of a global disorder rather than a world order MAJ John Bell Sir. Indeed; there is a war in every continent. China has a new emperor and Russia has elected its next Thor. The U.S. has Trump, who is equivalent of Russia and China. Will these three empires rule this world someday in the future?

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana - I just think WWIII is an unconventional war, with regional asymmetries and limited objectives.

All major powers eventually wane. I do not think the US , Russia, or China will be any different. I would wager that 200-300 years from now, if any one of the three still exists, it will look markedly different politically and geographically.

I tend to agree with you Major. This question drove up my TRP on RP. I enjoyed the replies.

I am thinking more along the lines that it will stem from an incident, or, incidents that may happen in Syria. With so many heavy hitters in the area, and Iran being the shit stir it is, it would not surprise me that escalation of contact between US led forces and Russian led forces, clash. Then there is always factions over there that want to see Israel destroyed. That would bring a major shift in support for war. I know MANY Veterans that would board the next flight out to throw in with the IDF. Similar to what happened in WW I and WW II, the US drug its feet in entering the wars, many Americans went anyway. Israel has a large following in America and many other countries. A surge of a couple hundred thousand foreign fighters flooding in to support Israel would force their origin countries to make a decision on whether or not to declare.

Okay Bill; China will not enter a Syrian war, but Russia definitely will. China is concentrated in SCS and in the Indian Ocean to the Gulf. OBOR is designed to route thru Turkey into Europe and from China to Russia from where Russia builds and operates into the Nordic region. Kazakhstan and other previous Soviet states will bow to China's and Russian powers is the assumption here.

Don't get me wrong, I have doubt China will not be a major player, as well as the ties and strengths both Russia and China has in the areas. I just think the odds are that it would start over some clash between Us and Russian ground troops or a wider swath to a bombing run in Syria. Or, Iran finally loosing their mind and launching something that swear they don't have. But, I would not be surprised with any of the speculative areas.

Nicky Haley has a big job ahead of her as our Rep in the U.N. Trying to keep the lids on all the pots and keep down to a low simmer at best.... I do wish her much success in this endeavor as do all of us.. regardless of political affiliation.. I don’t think Anybody wants another World war.
Only a person demented would want a sit-rep like a World war....

I'm brand new to the military and obviously I don't have an adequate amount of experience to bring to the table for informed decisions but based on choices of previous nations before here is what I can expect.

North Korea cannot and will not wage another war for a great deal because all it does is hinder their progress Economically, Socially and Militarilly speaking. They can't afford it as much of their own people are dying from Starvation and lack of Medicine. Any aggression from their front would almost be certain doom with any organized nation. China stands at the same point as Russia at this point. They are both expansive countries that have acted aggressively in the past and with little regard to the citizens in the various Countries, settlements and even remote regions just for resource material. If anything kicks off another world war it will be lack of resources, seeing as China and Russia's population are booming. Russia is already trying to pick another fight with a few countries in the European region as they've sent troops and armor into Ukraine in the past as well as Czechoslavkia and Its run ins with Russia. I expect Putin to make moves for annexing Countries eventually at some point as well. How well it is received is dependent on how they go about it. Diplomatically is fine but agressive arms against other nations to obtain resources is ignorant and should not be tolerated. That might be a tipping point. Alas, It's just a Observation.

The Decision would have to be Russia. I firmly don't trust the motives and moves that have taken place from previous years to now. I feel as if when they want to make a move, they can do so at anytime. I feel as if people are too trusting with how Russia conducts their movements and Political views.
