I love a good burger. I think they fall into different categories: Fast food, Specialty burgers (like from a restaurant), and regional favorites.
For my money I think Five Guys has the best burgers and fries (regular or seasoned) in the fast food business. They are followed closely by Carl's Jr Original $6 Burger. Best regional favorite is a New Mexico Green Chili Cheeseburger as served at Lindy's Diner in Albuquerque. I hear a lot of noise about In n Out burgers, but the one time I tried them it was pretty unremarkable. Fries too.

PVT (Join to see) This boy comes from the midwest, so "Steak and Shake" has the best Steak Burgers and fries! Back in the day there was a liitle place in East Peoria, IL and my hometown of Washington, IL called "Uncle Woody's". They had the best burgers and fries of the time. This was before McDonald's came to town!

I think the small, local, mom-n-pops probably make the best food all the way around. That's how Whataburger used to be before they got big and their burgers got small. Those things used to be as big as yer face! Now they're just a typical fast food burger.

Well I have to say I agree with you. Fast food, no one has come close to Five Guys, Carl Jr's (Hardies) is a close second.
I was in Albuquerque for 6 years and the green Chili burger is tops, I don't think I was ever at Lindy's. Or At least I don't remember, so I feel a bit sad.
As far as Restaurants, you can get good burgers, but I remember Fudruckers In Albuquerque. the Burger was excellent, and you put your own toppings own it. Quite nice. Here in Charleston, SC hmmm that is a tough one. While I do grill a tasty Burger, there are a few places here and there that produce good Burgers. But honestly, I still stick with five guys if I have that craving. Awesome post PVT (Join to see) you made me hungry.

MSgt Robert Pellam Did you ever make it to Barela's Coffee House? Best New Mexican food in town. Great posole with red chile and home made tortillas. So good

PVT (Join to see) i honestly don't remember. Last time I was there was 1997-2003. I remember the Cooperage. It was a Steak place near Central. Building was shaped like a barrel. Good steaks. I remember eating at Garduno's, which wasn't bad, but was very commercialized. I rememmber also eating at a lot of hole in the wall joints, and loving the real Mexican food. There used to be a place called "Johnny Rays" And they had the biggest and best catfish sandwich I have ever had, but they closed the restaurant side and went strictly to catering.
I remember Lotta Burger? is that right. We always speculated that the Mob ran it because we never seen them fill up. There burgers were not to bad. I just looked up Barela's on the map and while I know I have eaten food in that area, I can not say for certain I ate there. But I tell you, Albuquerque has some awesome food. Never went hungry

I think Omaha definitely has an advantage having the stockyards right there. There's a good German restaurant in the ol town that's pretty good too as I recall.
