I love a good burger. I think they fall into different categories: Fast food, Specialty burgers (like from a restaurant), and regional favorites.

For my money I think Five Guys has the best burgers and fries (regular or seasoned) in the fast food business. They are followed closely by Carl's Jr Original $6 Burger. Best regional favorite is a New Mexico Green Chili Cheeseburger as served at Lindy's Diner in Albuquerque. I hear a lot of noise about In n Out burgers, but the one time I tried them it was pretty unremarkable. Fries too.

Share your favorite burgers and fries.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Burgerville in Vancouver, WA. Its been 30 years and I still remember them.

In-n-Out is probably the best deal for under $4 for their Double-Double - amazing that they've kept it this low for so long! I agree that Five Guys is one of the best chains, but they're almost as expensive as Red Robin which is another pretty good chain. Whenever I can find a local mom 'n pop place, that's my choice. It can be a mixed bag, of course. But for the road fast food category, Carls Jr and Wendy's are the better quality. McD's and Burger King for speed.

I'm with you on Carl's Jr. Just about the best fast food burger outside of 5 Guys. Mom n Pops are the way to go though. Route 66 Diner in Albuquerque at the corner of 5th and Central for great green-chili cheeseburgers.

The question posed above also asked about great fries. Next time you're in South Burlington, Vermont, stop by Al's French Frys. Order 'em by the quart so you won't run out too soon. So good, they get top billing over the burgers.

Umm a place called Teddy's Bigger Burger. A lot of food but it falls apart. I'm from Chicago, it's challenging to please me. Chicago has spoiled my taste buds

Kua ‘Aina in Haliewa used to be amazing. Haven't been there in over a decade though, so not sure how they are now.

Out here in the Land of Fruits and Nuts, there is a joint called Slater's 50/50. Their "gimmick" is bacon .... The 50/50 is half ground beef, half ground bacon .... ummmm, bacon.

MSgt Jeff S. And them that aren't fruits or nuts are flakes, right?

I'm just not sure how a half ground beef/half bacon burger sounds, aside from a one way ticket to a four-way bypass :-)

Add the shakes at the end of the meal, and we are talking about a full on food-coma.

PVT (Join to see) - I agree that Five Guys is the best chain for hamburgers, although I am sure most of us know of local (non-chain) establishments that have better burgers.

In Augusta, Georgia, it is Rhinehart's, for me.

Yeah I've got to say there are no real "great" place for burgers anymore. They're all kind of the same once you get out of the BK, McDs and Wendy subspecies of "mystery meat" patties which are 1 step above the mess hall and the dehydrated beef patty MRE. Though Applebees with their new mixed burgers with bacon inside are pretty good and I've always liked their fries. 5 Guys is also pretty good for the buck.
