With all sincerity I was working on the back deck for Buck's furniture when I heard over the radio a plane had hit one of the towers. My initial reaction was oh an accident. Then the second plane hit. My opinion quickly changed to terrorism.

I was a senior in high school. I watched the second plane hit live and then the towers fall on a tv in the classroom. Gut-wrenching.

Whenever I see your question I think of Jimi Hendrix. Speaking of Hendrix, does Lakehurst have any memorials to the first jump school there? (Hendrix was with the 101st Airborne and had 26 jumps).

MSgt Tanner, those of us who served will always remember where they were on 9/11, myself, I was making up a drill that I had missed the weekend before. I had just walked into the office when the 2nd plane hit the WTC. There were a couple of others watching the events on the news which at first I thought was a movie. My MOS at the time was MP, and by the end of the day I was on emergency call up orders. on 9/12 I was directing traffic at one of the busiest intersections of Ft Bragg. The base had never been shut down like that before. I got the worst Beret sunburn in the history of mankind that day. Overnight I went from being an IT guy full time (civilian world) to being in Law Enforcement. I volunteered to extend for a total of four years, and that experience is what led me to pursing a Warrant Officer career. This has become the greatest career decision I have ever made.

I was in the Louisiana National Guard and Running a Carpet distribution center in Baton Rouge. Got off the night shift and was watching CNN when the 2nd plane came out of nowhere and struck the tower.

I was at Camp Howze in the Western Corridor of Korea. I called the Brigade and Battalion Staff Duty desks to notify senior leadership. I remember thinking it was an attack right away. With the impact of the second jet any doubt was eliminated. When the third jet crashed into the Pentagon and then the fourth crashed in Pennsylvania I wondered how much more was to come.

On that day I was working in the Store for Firestone in Marietta, GA when the Plane hit the first tower I only had one customer in the store at that time he was From Iran and I was in the process of repairing his vehicle. Once the plane hit the second tower I knew that we were under attack. I could then see the fear in my customer based on the fact that they are Muslims, not practicing but Muslims just the same and possible a target of a hostile crowd. So I finished tier car as fast as I could and told the to go home because the it is really going to hit the fan. Since they are repeat customers I knew that they were no harm, but it was also the last time that I saw them.

I had been in Bahrain for just over 2 months. I was the Medical Officer for NSA Bahrain's Emergency Response Team (ERT) responsible for all CBRNE and disaster response for the base as well as initial CBRNE response in the AOR. We had only been training for a month when it all went down. Training at Zero Dark Thirty in MOPP Level 4 for hours on end to ensure readiness in over 110 degree weather... Being on alert to go "anywhere" on a moments notice"...Sleeping under desks, racket ball courts, dog kennels, medical exam tables, under vehicles and anywhere else where we thought being safe sucked... Had to provide CBRNE training to dependents, civilians and initial forces heading to A'stan and provide decedent affairs for initial casualties... Funny how I would do it all over again... Thank you MSGT Bob Massey, USMC. Semper Fi!

Where was I 9/11 I was living at Sub Base Bangor Washington. My Husband was aboard the USS Kamehameha and was to pull in to the sub base that evening to unload weapons then head to Bremerton Naval Ship Yard to be Decomed. Due to the attack his arrival was delayed so was his retirement. He terminated shore duty to go back to the Kamehameha so he could take it to Decom and retire. Due to 9/11 they froze all early retirements and he ended up spending 2 more years in the Navy waiting for his EOAS before he could retire.

I was at Sgt PT. SSgt Cox decided that we would have more of a PME leadership class than go for a run. After we finished our talk we all got back into our cars to head to the shop. Most of us had Howard Stern on and they were talking about the situation and they didn't really know what was going on. Right about that time was when the second plane crashed into the second tower.

Once we got back to the shop Sgt Brown and a few of us started setting up an antenna that we could use to bring into a TV that we had downstairs so we could watch the coverage and get up to speed on everything.
